The staff at Gunung Merta were very accommodating. They were happy to help with anything we asked. Wyan in particular speaks English very well, and his service was exceptional. Little touches, like the free coffee and tea, and pool towels, were great and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We stayed a month, and really enjoyed the variety of breakfasts, including juices. We really enjoyed the big egg breakfasts and loved the banana pancakes. Although it’s not always obvious, you can order food at times other than breakfast at reasonable prices. Just check that it’s available on the day.
Our room, which was located upstairs, had a wonderful view and it was great to relax on the balcony. The bed was fine, and had mosquito netting, which is necessary. As others have said, the fan was adequate to keep you cool. The roof is open-air, so there are mosquitos, but we managed this with our own mosquito electrical plugs and the coils provided by the accommodation.
Gunung Merta is a tranquil oasis alongside a very busy road. This is not a problem, as the rooms and grounds are well back from the street. The positive is that there is a supermarket, patisserie, and a vegetarian café across the street. There is also a cheap laundry, and a few other eateries, nearby. It is a hot walk into Ubud centre, but during our months stay, Wyan sometimes drove us into town. This was very helpful.
Overall, our stay was really enjoyable and relaxing. The staff were really wonderful. The grounds are beautiful and the pool is a real bonus. We loved it.
