Bedroom in a beautifully renovated 1900s Surry Hills Terrace house. Creative neighbourhood close to all the best cafes & bars & walking distance to Sydney's sights and Central train Station. (We have a larger room also listed on Air BnB)
Long term stays and business trips welcome. Single occupancy only :) Come and live like a Surry Hills local in the best neighbourhood in town...
I live in the house and there are two air bnb rooms available. The house is huge, so sociable when you need it and privacy when you don't! We prefer longer term stays - So if you are coming out on business or re-locating this is perfect! The room is only available for single occupancy to keep the house balance (sorry to any couples). The room has a double bed and drawers and a rail for clothes.
It is walking distance to everything Sydney has to offer - minutes away from all of Surry Hills cafes, boutiques, markets and art galleries and walking distance to all of Sydney's sights. It is also well connected with public transport and Sydney's main train station if you want to go further afield.
The house is a large, 4 bedroom terrace. It was recently renovated and features wooden floor boards on the lower levels and modern kitchen.
We have a large living room (with TV, Apple TV and couch), a dining room, a large kitchen with gas cooking, large fridge, breakfast table in the sun, a large courtyard with BBQ and outdoor seating, washing/drying machine, 3 bathrooms (2 showers) and 4 bedrooms total.
We're on a quiet street right near the main Surry Hills area - so you've got the best of both worlds.
Hopefully the photos speak for themselves - but we're happy to explain more if you have any questions!
Surry Hills is a popular suburb in Sydney for cafes, food, culture and general 'vibe'. Time Out magazine's suburb guide describe it as "Sydney's buzziest and most happening 'burb"
On top of being in the midst of Surry Hills - you're in a really central part of Sydney, with a 10 minute walk to Central Station (which connects to everything), buses everywhere (bondi, circular quay, city), a short walk to Centennial park, chinatown, the city etc. There's a large supermarket (Coles) about 100 metres away.
I'm a fashion designer and art therapist, and I lecture in design subjects. I work from home 2-3 days per week - which is why I would prefer guests who are working or studying in the day time or who are out during the day. Evenings and weekend no problem though :) I'm friendly and love filling my guests in on where to go and what to do in Sydney, but am equally busy and in and out a lot on adventures.
It's not a crazy party house - but occasionally we have a few friends over. Having said that - the house is big and there's plenty of space to chill out.
It'd be great to have you stay, so please get in touch if you have any questions at all!
*More about Surry Hills*
If you haven't heard of Surry Hills, just do a web search for "Surry Hills pubs, restaurants, culture etc" To see that you are in the hub of it all...
One website summed it up as this:
"Amid Crown Street's funky fashion shops and salons, the buzzing garment district and the artsy, gay-friendly vibe, Surry Hills is a hotbed of restaurant activity. Here Sydneysiders can come for some of the city's best baristas and coffee houses, many of them tucked away between converted warehouses that stretch down to Central Station.
Surry Hills boasts a swag of celebrity chefs from Kylie Kwong to Bill Granger and Mark Best, while heading south to Cleveland Street unveils the suburb's small stretch of Little India. There's a lot of ground to cover, but there are few foodie areas in Sydney that deliver more quality dining options, from casual to upscale."
Our house is parallel to Crown St and connects to Cleveland St (the streets mentioned above) so you really are in the center of everything.
Your room is the one straight up the first flight of stairs and straight ahead next to the bathroom.
There will be an empty shelf in the fridge and an empty shelf in the pantry cupboard for your use
There aren't too many rules but the ones to remember are:
- Shoes off to go upstairs - we all leave our shoes downstairs, so your pair can join our happy pairs there :)
- The front door does NOT automatically lock behind you - so you need to lock it behind you on both entering and leaving the house
- Everyone in the house works, so please be mindful of much noise after 10pm on weeknights
- The room is single occupancy, use of the house and the common spaces is for the use of the registered guest only. Single visitors may be allowed with prior permission on occasion, however for liability reasons and to ensure the safety of the house and respect for other occupants only guests registered may enter the premises.
- If you are planning to use the house as your office/home study space during your stay please let me know - I do some work from home, so this needs to be negotiated prior to arrival. I am fine with the occasional day/s of work from home, although using the common areas as a full time office mon-fri is not permitted. Occupancy includes shared moderate use of the common areas between all guests - many thanks!
I lived London for 6 years, but am a Sydney girl through and through. I work in design and teach at colleges and I am currently studying to become an art therapist. I have lived in this house for 4 years and have only had really great experiences through air bnb, both as a host and staying in places myself.
