From ordering a taxi for me to bring me to her home from the International Airport to seeing me off with her 24-year old daughter at 4am for my early morning flight to Santiago, Chile, I received from Mariana, the mother of AIRBNB hostess, Nicole, friendly, respectful, caring, and thoughtful hospitality at her old gated home (circa 1927) with courtyard and a separate entrance to an upstairs apartment with private bath.
The apartment was equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, an electric kettle with automatic shut-off for heating water for coffee; glasses, cups, dishes, and silverware, a roll of paper towels, and a welcome tray that included a jar of instant La Meritona coffeee, packets of sugar / sweeteners, a pakage of wafer cookies, and an Argentinan sweet - "galletita de limon com chocolate (Havanna)" - and tourist literature pertaining to sights in the municipality, San Isidro. The password for the included Wi-Fi was included, and the Wi-Fi was completely reliable. I was given keys to my room and to the gate that allowed me to enter the gated property. Whatever I needed, she told me, she would try to provide. I asked for a large spoon and bowl for my morning cereal and fruit breakfast - and we went down to her kitchen and I picked out a spoon and large bowl. When she heard that I would be playing tennis daily at the Club Nautique of San Isidro, she suggested that she could lend me a bike that I could ride to the tennis courts. She took the time - on the afternoon of my arrival - to show me where I could shop for groceries and took the time to ride with me by bike to the tennis courts, so that I would know how to get there. The private bath that came with the private room included a solid shower with an old-fashioned stone floor with a soft rubber mat for comfort and safety, and a low stone siding, that prevented any water from leaving the shower area. It was a delight to have my morning breakfast in the courtyard each morning at a picnic table with tablecloth with a wine-red bush, which I was told, was not a jacaranda but another beautiful flowering plant whose name I was told but have forgotten.
I had a wonderful experience - made possible by a very comfortable room and bath, the privacy of a courtyard in bloom with flowering plants, and a hostess and her family who were interesting and thoughtful and made me feel welcome and at home.
