Let go of your cares and settle into this private, cozy one bedroom cottage , 2 blocks from historic downtown Berkeley Springs, WV. Be sure to check out the special offer at the end of the listing!
Welcome to The John W. Wright Cottage, a beautiful, bright, private apartment in one of the oldest homes in the historic downtown of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
The Judge John W. Wright Cottage is a part of Wisteria Cottage, which was built in 1872, and is a two-story, frame residence of board-and-batten construction in the late Italianate style. The house was originally built as a summer home for John W. Wright, an influential 19th-century Federal jurist and associate of Abraham Lincoln. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
The apartment, part of which was formerly the summer kitchen, has been entirely remodeled and updated. The main room is a combination full kitchen and living area (13' x 13'). There is a single bedroom suitable for 2 (15' x 10') with a new Queen bed, and a bath which has a large walk-in shower. The living area and bedroom have beautiful, old hardwood floors and the bathroom is tiled. The apartment is surprisingly private, with no direct access between the main house and the apartment.
Walk next door, to Lot 12 Public House, a gourmet treasure, serving seasonal upscale comfort cuisine prepared by local Chef Damian Heath. Or continue 2 blocks to the downtown area and dine at Tari's, which offers often home-grown ingredients in imaginative and original recipes, delivered with attentive service in a gallery setting. The Ambrae House has more general fare and often a musical offering! There is plenty to explore! Enjoy the other numerous and diverse dining venues, antique vendors, specialty shops, Ice House Art, and spas.
The John W. Wright Cottage is close to hiking, paddling, biking and bicycle rentals, the C & O Canal and Rail to Trail paths, shopping, championship golf course, and horseback riding.
