We spent 2 wonderful weeks at Constanza's house in Forte dei Marmi. The house was perfect for our family (with 2 young, energetic boys), and was a very good, comfortable base to enjoy the pleasures of Forte. Constanza was very responsive to questions, but as the house is well-equipped and "user-friendly", there were no real issues (apart from the garbage collection schedule which we actually never really figured out). The neighbourhood is nice and quiet, although late lie-ins were not always possible when the next door neihgbours were around as they seemed to talk at the top of their voices, carrying the sound right to the master bedroom. Other than that, the house is very comfortable, well-equipped, and refreshingly cool even with airconditioning turned off (very pleasant after long hot days on the beach!) We ate most of our meals on the terrace/loggia, which was truly lovely. Also, there's ample space for our boys to play football in the garden.
The house is actually about 800m from the beach, and is a good 15-20min walk (5 minutes by bicycle), and to the town center, where most shops are open until 11pm! Cycling everywhere in Forte really puts one in a holiday mood :-) We went to the Rafaelli beach club the whole time we were there eventhough it was slightly more expensive, as it has a swimming pool, but we ended up using the pool only once as the sea was just too lovely! We did not find a super great Italian restaurant in the area, but Bobby Liker's grill serves good tex-mex fare. The Wednesday market in the center is truly an experience, and I highly recommend it! (especially to the ladies). Finally, the property (Forte, in general), is a very good base to explore the surrounding areas (Pietrasanta, Lucca, Florence which is about an hour's drive, even Siena which is about a 2 hour's drive). YOu can even take a boat right from the Forte pier to go to Cinque terra, which is really pretty! In summary, a truly positive experience, and we would go back to Constanza's house in a heartbeat.
