Just a 5min/$1US taxi ride from downtown Montego Bay, this private studio/bachelor apt is clean, has a great bed & fabulous balcony with AMAZING views of hill;, city; sea & sunsets! Please check out the pictures (including captions) and use the "MORE" option under each section to read the entire listing - including "Neighborhood" just above the map - to learn why guests rate this airbnb 5 STARS!!! As your "super-host" I do my very best to make your personalized vacation as amazing as possible!
The building housing this studio was originally constructed as a luxury hotel, and converted to condos several years ago. My unit has 2 sides - the rental studio and the adjacent apartment which is my home. The studio is completely separate and private, clean and cool - there is powerful floor fan but no AC as it is simply not needed. Heavy roller-blinds on the balcony do a great job of keeping both the inside and outside areas cool!
The studio features a private entrance; small hallway; full bathroom with tub, hot water (not standard in Jamaica); private space on the extended verandah; and a large main room with ample closet space, built-in shelves, and a safe. The bed is queen size and boasts a 5star quality, comfortable, double pillow-top mattress. The large fan will keep you cool if the breeze dies down. The kitchenette features a fridge, small appliances (microwave/toaster/coffee pot/tea kettle) and essentials to prepare snacks and simple meals are provided for your convenience. The large balcony with it's awesome breeze and view extends past the studio to my apartment and wraps around the end, in an "L" shape. I use the bottom end only so your balcony area is very private. A table, chairs, a lounger and ashtray are supplied for eating, view-gazing, sun-worshipping and smoking, respectively! There are small intimate shared seating areas outside as well if you long to feel the earth under your feet. The grounds are very well lit and the entire unit is screened and grilled for your comfort and security.
The private entrance leads to a private and self-contained bachelor/studio apartment. Off the main room is a large, security-grilled balcony (shared with host - see "The Space"). There are common seating areas outside and a free parking lot. (SEE PICTURES)
This is totally up to you. Unless you have an issue, you need never see me if that is your preference. However, if you want to hang out and get to know me; have me prepare a fresh, made-to-order meal for you (breakfasts start at $5/person); learn what I've gleaned about the country, culture and people in my many years here; or even have me act as your paid tour guide: that is possible as well (based on my availability). I am familiar with many areas of the country and my last home was in a rural hillside community just a 15min taxi ride from downtown. If this appeals to you we could visit an "Infant School", check a Rasta farmer, eat a "cook shop" meal, watch a soccer game, drink a rum/Red Stripe beer while playing a game of dominoes under the shade of a breadfruit tree - and more! We can visit the historic town of Falmouth where we will tour the weekly "bend-down" market (Wednesdays only), pass through the craft market built especially for cruise ship tourists as Falmouth is home to the largest port in the Caribbean, drink a cold "jelly" (coconut water) and finish up at the local fisherman's beach for a freshly-caught fish meal! My guided tour to a quaint country-side village, complete with a hidden water-falls and swimming hole, has recently become popular, or perhaps you would like to spend a day exploring the Blue Hole & Mineral Pool in Westmorland and visit the famous 7-Mile Beach in Negril? I can also custom design a day for you: just ask about the possibilities!
Jamaica is - by nature - a noisy place. Luckily the studio is in a quiet, residential community but you may hear some noise, especially barking dogs and music. Sound systems sometimes pump out reggae, r&b, oldies and occasional dancehall on Friday and Saturday nights; local church congregations can be heard singing hymns Saturday and Sunday mornings. I have been open for well over a year now and thus far only one of my guests have ever had an issue with the noise. But, if you are a light sleeper, please bring earplugs - better safe than sorry! :-)
While the kitchenette does not include a stove or sink/basin in the main room, the fridge with separate freezer; microwave; toaster; kettle & coffeepot enables you to make your own simple meals, keep cool drinks and ice on hand at all times, etc. The bathroom basin can be used for dish washing.

RESPECT is key in Jamaica . . . The Golden Rule is the Best Rule!
After booking, please read the House Manual which can be found by clicking on your itinerary. This is a home-style B&B and as I treat all my guests like friends/family, I ask that guests behave as they would when visiting friends/family. I.E.: be considerate of me and neighbours, keep the place tidy and neat, etc.
*** Also ***
Only booked guests are allowed on the property and no visitors are permitted. Please do not give any information about me or my home to strangers you meet here. Please do not reveal my home's location to anyone other than drivers of "red plate" taxis.
No one in Jamaica minds a bit of noise, but as this is a quiet residential building; loud voices, music, etc is considered disrespectful after 11pm.
Smoking is permitted but please keep it on the balcony, where you can best relax and enjoy the fantastic view!
None of the apartment's contents - except beach towels - are to be removed from the premises.
Any damages you cause or things you loose (like beach towels) will result in a replacement fee equal to the cost of the item plus a sourcing surcharge. Guest substitution for items will not be accepted.
Thank you in advance for your co-operation!
An expat of Canadian origins, I live atop one of the highest hills in the city of Montego Bay and enjoy amazing views of mountains, the city, sea, and sunsets!
I consider myself a bit of a hippie - I am definitely a peacenik! I grew up in rural NB, Canada and originally moved to the island 14yrs ago after stereo-typically falling in love with a Rasta while on vacation. The romantic relationship did not endure but my love affair with Jamaica continues to grow! I am still enamored with the Rastafari culture as well, and have many Rasta friends and "links".
5 things I love about Jamaica are the irrepressible spirit of the people; the music which pervades life here; the wholesome and tasty cuisine; the lush natural environment (beautiful vegetation/colourful & cheerful birds/cool hills/fab beaches & more!) and of course - the sunshine!!!
As a host my goal is to cater to my guests' individual needs, whether that means total privacy; becoming your new BFF; cooking for you; being your guide; or sharing my knowledge of things to do, how to get there, where to find the best deals; etc!
I am a work-from-home freelance communication specialist and dabble in everything from creating business documents to editing theatrical scripts. I live a very humble life and for the most part live among the locals like one of them. I moved into my current home late 2015 and am eager to share it - and the island - with culturally curious travelers from around the world!
I love people, food, music, art, entertainment, nature and especially all things multicultural. My life motto is to share every positive thought or action that comes to me - there is enough negativity in the world and I am determined to combat it by spreading the positive whenever I can!
And BTW, Bob Marley got it right when he sang about the "Natural Mystic" of Jamaica. Come, "feel it in the air"!
