We booked this condo at aquatika for a family vacation (we have 3 small children). It worked out well overall. Aquatika is a basically the puerto-rican version of a vacation home. It's a gated area in the middle of nowhere. They have several pools, all very good (except that they used this gravel around most of the pools which is extremely painful to walk on). The are several playgrouds, a tennis court and mini-golf. But you need to be bring your own equipment (i.e. tennis raquet), unless your unit has one (you should ask before booking). Our unit didn't have most of the equipment needed to use these facilities. We did have tubes for the lazy river, though. The grounds are well kept. This particular unit (there are several being rented out on airbnb) was advertised as a "penthouse" right next to the pool. We realized when we got there that every apartment is next to a pool. The penthouse apartments (there are many of them) are a little bigger than the ones on the first or second floor. We had airconditioning in every room, except the living room airconditioner was not operational. This wasn't a big deal, as we just opened the windows, which provided sufficient airflow. The kitchen had nice appliances, and ok kitchen equipment (i've seen better). There were several tiles in the kitchen floor which were broken. We put a towel over them so as not to get cuts on our feet. Despite the description, there was no wifi in the apartment when we got there. The host told us to use the neighbors wifi, which we did for a bit (though we felt uncomfortable doing so), until the neighbor left for the week and turned off their wifi. After a little complaining, the host then provided us with a cellular wifi device. It worked well for the most part, though it was rather slow. There's several supermarkets and a walmart 10-15 minutes away. There are no good restaurants close by, unless you want fast food. Overall, we had a good time. The kids enjoyed the pools, weather was good, and the apartment is good overall. Overall
We communicated with Alonso through text. He welcomed us when our flight landed and send us a map And directions to the condo. I then spoke with him on the phone when we arrived at the condo. He was very nice and everything was accurately described except in the ad it was called a "private room" when in fact it was a whole private 3-bedroom condo! Which when reading the description becomes more clear. It was clean and spacious and provided many nice amenities like beach towels and pool toys. He also provided a highchair and a pack and play. It is in a gated community which felt safe and the grounds were beautifully kept. The pool was great and my kids enjoyed using it. Per the feedback from others, we were prepared to buy some extra toilet paper and paper towels and did so.
Alonso's apartment is about 45mins from San Juan… Even though this may feel like an inconvenience at the beginning, it really isn't!! We had rented a car and it was super easy to get to anywhere from this location! The apartment is located within Aquatika which is a vacation resort… you've multiple indoor pools, fitness center and awesome security. Alonso's apartment is about 300-400 feet away from a private beach, which is really cool:-) The apartment can easily house 6-10 people, has three bedrooms and 2.5 bath! Upstairs has a sofa bed, and connects to the terrace which has a view of the ocean! As mentioned in other reviews the AC is only for three rooms, so when you walk in, it's super hot but once you open the windows and turn the fan on, other rooms are pleasant to sit in at. Also, the apartment is right in front of the pool, gym and the office, so you've all you need! It also has wifi which was very convenient Final thing to say is Alonso is super responsive. You could message him at anytime and he would respond. Thanks a ton for making this trip very enjoyable:-)) Overall I would highly recommend this place!!
- This price can't be beat for a 3 bedroom condo in Puerto Rico - You get what you pay for. You have to supply your own toilet paper and paper towels, so make sure you buy some at the local Ralph's or Walmart located nearby. Towels, beach equipment, inflatables and a cooler are all available so that was nice. - Air Conditioning is only available in the bedrooms and not in the dining/living area nor the upstairs loft. The air was not turned on for us before coming so the condo was at least 95 degrees faranheit or hotter. Be prepared to open all of the windows, turn on the A/C in the bedrooms and lower all of the sun shades to help cool down the place. There is a fan available in the unit that you can move around but the ceiling fan in the dining area doesn't really work and spins too slow to move any air. But once you allow the A/C from the bedrooms to do it's work the place will cool down nicely. - The unit is located to the nice lazy river pool which is very busy on the weekends and deserted on the weekdays. The entire complex is deserted on the weekdays. - The unit is a good 10 minute walk to the beach however so make sure you don't forget anything before you head down there. It is cleaner and quieter than beaches in other areas. - There is a TV but it is located upstairs in the very warm loft, so we never used it because of that reason. Once again, there is an A/C unit up there but it looks like they aren't functioning or Alonso just doesn't want renters to use it to minimize on electricity bills. They require remotes and remotes are not made available. All in all - it is a nice place for the price and it is a great way to see Puerto Rico with a budget in mind for a family. I just wish that the condo had been cooled down prior to our arrival as first impressions mean everything in the hospitality business. But for this price, I guess it's not needed.
