Our quiet guest room and spotless, private bath provide a peaceful oasis in the midst of an artsy, beautiful, and safe neighborhood in Mt. Airy. Walk to restaurants and parks, or take public transport to Philly's cultural and historic sites!
Perfect location for Center City conventions and events! Quiet, but only 2 blocks to transportation downtown.
From your private, quiet aerie on the third floor of our stone Victorian house, enjoy views of bright maple trees in the fall and our flower garden in summer. The cozy double bed for two boasts an excellent mattress, and a comfortable air bed and port-a-crib are available for a third traveler, a child, or a baby. Relax in a bubble bath in your large tub, or take a cup of tea on our back deck. In your room, decorated with our travel photos, curl up with a book, write in your journal, or peruse our collection of travel books. With plenty of room for your belongings, closet for hanging clothes, iron, luggage rack, and bureau, you can unpack and unwind at the end of a day exploring our artsy, friendly neighborhood and the culture and history of Philadelphia. Enjoy our piano and board games on the first floor, or coffee in the dining room.
Private bedroom and full bath for guests. Back deck in spring, summer, fall, and living/dining room available, sometimes shared with family.
We love meeting people from around the world. Guests' living quarters are on a separate floor from the family's, but we will be here during guests' stay.
We are LGBT-friendly, but at this point, we are unable to accommodate men unless traveling with women or children. (Sorry, guys.)
No smoking or drugs. No furry pets (allergies!). Quiet between 10:00pm and 7:00am.
No food or drinks in room (except water, of course).
My children and I live in a Victorian house surrounded by trees and a friendly, diverse neighborhood. It's safe so the kids can head off on their own and I can take walks in the woods.
I'm a writer and teacher by trade. In my spare time, I read a lot of fiction and see as many movies as possible. Having two teens but being a "mature" mother keeps things interesting (one child is an aerialist, the other, a singer, and I do far too much carpooling).
The three of us have traveled in Canada, Europe, South Asia, South America, and the Middle East, and to US national parks. We seek out fun neighborhoods or beautiful natural areas, avoid touristy spots (with some exceptions!), and check out local markets. On my own, I've also visited the Gambia, the Kackar in Turkey, and Costa Rica. We lived in Provence for awhile (my son's French is much better than mine).
At home and away, I'm very organized and neat, and I'm usually helping out in the kitchen. I cook almost every day: American comfort food, Mediterranean, and my versions of South Asian cuisine. We love meeting people from all over the world and have hosted exchange students. Things I treasure: music, my son's jokes, my daughter's dance moves, and laughing and talking with friends.
