Kukljica is a small hidden treasure on the south-west side if the island ugljan across from Zadar, one of the nicest cities on croatia coastline. It is a famous tourist and fisherman’s village well connected with a ferry to Zadar (about 20 minutes).
Our house used to be a fisherman's house.. We rennovated it, kept it simple but cosy. It is a few minutes walk from the sea, and the center of the village, surrounded by a garden. It is ideal for 2 couples (a party of four) and a child, who can spend time together, but be for themselves, if they want to. There are two independent apartments, one on the ground floor, another on the first floor, each having 1 bedroom (double bed), living room with sofa, kitchenette and bathroom. They are connected by an outside staircase. apartments have balcony and terrrace
Your host has a boat and will gladly take you to a trip and prepare you a delicious seafood meal on grill. You can se neighbouring islands and get away from it all, away from crowded beaches. the most famous Croatian national Park Kornati islands can be reached in just two hours sailing.
It is very simple to get to Kukljica. The village is on the green island of Ugljan, just opposite Zadar and there is a ferry from Zadar to Ugljan every half an hour. The passage lasts some 20 minutes. We wait for our guests in the harbour on Ugljan and take them to their house.
Mail from a great guest, Alison Sheldon, Manchester:
We spent a lovely fortnight at the house this Summer. We rented both apartments, my husband and myself used the top one and my sixteen year son used the ground floor. I think if we had only had one apartment for all three of us we wouldn't have had enough space.
The apartments are clean and equipped for basic needs. There is a hot plate with two rings, a good size fridge and adequate plates, cutlery etc. We had everything we needed. The first floor apartment has a nice balcony with table, chairs and a canopy - lovely to sit out there and look at the garden. The bedrooms are a good size with wardrobe space, pillows, blankets etc and a hairdryer.
It could get quite noisy at night times as the apartment is in the centre of the village and the streets are really narrow so the houses are very close together but we just used ear plugs and to be honest we loved the location of the apartments as they were so central. It was five minutes to the supermarkets (two) and two vegetable stalls, bread stall and fish stall (mornings only). There are many restaurants within a ten minute walk so we ate out most evenings as it was so reasonable.
The sea was about a 10/15 minute walk and was beautiful, although busy never felt crowded.
The hosts were amazing! They left us gifts of food throughout the fortnight, picked us up from the port when we arrived and gave us leaving presents.
We didn't hire a car as we used the local buses and there were taxis available if we needed them. We visited Zadar twice and used the local bus and ferry to get there.
We had a wonderful holiday and would have no hesitation in returning next year. Hope this has been useful.
We often invite our guests to grilled fish and home made wine

kukljica has beautiful landscapes with thick pine forests, beautiful beaches, crystal clear sea and the mild mediterranean climate which offers numerous possibilities for a lovely holiday. With a small marina, situated in its bay, kukljica is a modern tourist village. In the kukljica center, along the pine tree landscapes and palm trees, you can find variety of restaurants, coffee & cake shops along the water in the village, and live music. There are also secluded and more private swimming areas and beaches, few minutes drive to the famous “sabusa beaches” with fine and therapeutic sand beach!!! (please see photos)
kukljica offers different sport activities, renting boats, excursions to most famous national park "kornati islands", diving, etc. There are beautiful walking tracks along the sea and thcik pine trees all around the village!

I am a happily married woman, working as a translator and interpreter for five languages with the Court in Zadar. I have two grown up children who live in Zagreb and husband is a seaman, often on the ship, but not far - he is a captain on a passanger ship sailing in the Adriatic.
I live with my cat Fido and have 4 tortoises in the garden, my hobby is gardening. I live in the house and there is just this fantastic apartment and we would really like someone to share it and enjoy it as we do our stay in the house. We have a boat and in summer we go swimming to the fantastic nearby islands, but spring and autumn are charming as well. We enjoy good food, eat mostly fish and vegetables, season it with domestic olive oil and home made red wine. We are happy in our house. Come and see us!
