No smoking, no pets, no fixture throwing. The flats are very quiet and well sound-proofed (by clever design only one bedroom wall adjoins a neighbour's wall) but neighbours appreciate quiet behaviour by the lifts and rubbish chutes. I am occasionally able to let the flat for a single night but only if the date adjoins other bookings and only for parties of four or less.
I am a writer and broadcaster living in Battersea, nowadays spending too much of my time cooking, playing around with cuisines from all around the world. London Calling started out as a straight property investment and turned almost immediately into a design passion. I loved the modernist hi-rise apartment and wanted to take it back to its 60s ideals of space and light and simplicity. It felt to me just like a mini hotel suite in the sky and that, in effect is what it has become. Furnishing it and choosing art for the walls and books and DVDs for its London library has become an obsession of sorts. In four years of ownership I have yet to spend a single night here myself, though I enjoy it vicariously through my many guests. One day soon my wife and I will treat ourselves to a night in London Calling.
