Our History

Suite Madison is located in the safe and historical district of Stuyvesant Heights in north-central Brooklyn. Stuyvesant Heights was founded by Peter Stuyvesant in 1640 and hence received its name. It is in the historic district just north of Fulton Street with well-kept brownstones. Originally farmland it was later inducted as a community after the American Revolutionary War.

Stuyvesant Heights was the original location of St. John's College (now St. John’s University), founded in 1870. Its first building was completed in the same year and sited on the corner of Lewis and Willoughby Avenues. St. John's began construction of a new campus circa 1939 in Jamaica, Queens, where the university is located today.

We look forward to your visit!

House Rules and Departure Procedures

Suite Madison is a member of Brooklyn Hospitality Properties, which are “green homes.” The Artist Suite is located on the 2nd floor of Suite Madison. We use renewable energy power for our electricity.

Please join us in doing our part to address global warming and create a better world for our children’s future.

We ask all guests:
•to renew energy by recycling paper, plastic, glass and metal;
•to conserve energy by turning off all lights and appliances while the apartment is vacant; and
•to enjoy all the amenities we provide when the apartment is occupied.

House Rules:

•Clean kitchen each evening; do not leave dirty dishes in sink over night.

•Recycle: glass, paper, plastic and metal – see magnet next to refrigerator for details on separating items.

•Take garbage out each evening.

•Turn off all lights and electronics when you leave the apartment for the day.

•Keep the windows and front doors CLOSED when using the air conditioner.

•Use the “energy-saver” setting when using the air conditioner; please use the air conditioner sparingly and turn it “off” when you leave for the day. Instead of sleeping with the air-conditioner “on,” try using the fan… it blows cold air! And depending on the humidity, you may find it to be sufficient for a comfortable nights rest.

•Do not move or re-organize any of the furniture or other household items. Do not put holes in the walls.

•Please remove your shoes upon entry – shoes are not to be worn in the apartment at any time. This helps to preserve the beautiful wood floors and keep the noise of walking from disturbing other guests. Please keep in mind sneakers and soft black sole shoes leave dark streaks on the hard wood floors.

•No smoking! If you smoke outside, dispose of your ashes and cigarette butts in the garbage can or bring a container with you for that purpose; Please do not leave any ashes or cigarette butts on the grounds or sidewalk. If you smoke in the front or backyard, be sure the doors and windows are closed so that the smoke does not back-draft into the house.

•No pets are allowed on the property or in any apartment at any time - unless you have spoken with the property manager.

•There is absolutely no sleeping on the sofa. If additional sleeping space is needed there are air mattresses available upon request; there is a maximum of two persons per bed.

•Please be considerate of the other guest by keeping the noise levels moderate to low at all times.

Departure Procedures:
· Turn “off” all lights, televisions, radios and electronic devices

· Wash all used dishes

· Wipe down the kitchen

· Remove all open food items from the refrigerator

· Tightly turn off water in the kitchen and bathroom sink - make sure there are no drips

· Remove all garbage from the premises to the outside garbage bins in the front courtyard

· Leave the KEYS on the fireplace mantel and the apartment door wide open when you leave Suite Madison to embark on your next adventure

· Slam lock the main gate/front door door at exit

· Make sure that the main gate is locked when you leave; the main gate has a automatic slam-lock mechanism; double check to make sure the gate is engaged after you close it. In the alternative, you can schedule an appointment with a Property Manager to secure the property at the time of your departure.

Subhana's place was great! The neighborhood was quiet, trees outlined the sidewalk and the buildings were nice. The neighbors were friendly, as were the owners of nearby bodegas. Very convenient location, especially since the C train was only a few blocks away (and a McDonald's if you're feeling hungry!). I had a great experience here. Really, there were only two things that weren't ideal--but not enough to prevent us from giving a 5 star rating! Upon our arrival, we let Subhana know that the House Manual (which we assumed would have rules, instructions and other info on the house/neighborhood) and trash bags were not in the house. She called to say she would send us a copy of the manual and come by the next day to drop off trash bags. She seemed to have forgotten to do either of those things, but we managed! A small oversight, really. The only other "complaint" is that the bathroom is not a part of the apartment itself--it's located outside, on the second floor hall, immediately to the left. It was a private bathroom since we were the only unit on the second floor, but people passing by the corridor to go to higher floors could catch you exiting in your bath towel if you weren't careful. It felt slightly less private, and we did worry that someone would come use our bathroom but that was never the case. It was a slight adjustment, but again, just a small detail! OTHERWISE, this place was perfect!the perfect size for a couple, and the bed was comfy and spacious. I definitely recommend it. Thanks, Subhana!

This place is very spacious and has lots of light, the bed is quite comfortable, and overall it's a great space. It's a short walk to the C train and the A is also not far. It is a long train ride to midtown Manhattan so if that's all you are coming for, this may not be the best location but if you want to see Brooklyn, this is a perfect spot.

Subhana's place was perfect for my parents while visiting us in the city. Will definitely book again next time. Thanks!

Subhana is very helpful and accommodating.

Great place to stay. Very clean and lovely apartment. Subhana was very very helpful especially when I had to leave 3 days earlier than planned by sorting a refund for me. Would definitely stay here again.

Our stay at the Artist Suite was very pleasent. Subhana is a very nice host. The communication was always friendly and helpful. The room offers a lot of space and the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is a separate room next to the sleeping room and very beautifully set up. Although it is a lively neighbourhood by day, by night the silence lets you sleep like a baby. The local subway station Kingston Throop can be reached in a 5-10 minutes walk. Near to the subway station is a big supermarket which is open till late night.
Katharina and Ben, Thank you for your gracious feedback. We are always looking for opportunities to improve our guest experience. The pleasure was truly ours. Cheers!

We had to leave our trip early so did not have a full experience but will note a few things we would have liked to know before booking for future guests. Although the unit itself is private with lockable doors, the host and family live in the home (lower level) and I think there is another airbnb unit on the upper floor. Noise travelled easily so it was not as private as we are used to with similar rentals... could hear family in their day to day routine, eating/coming and going/arguing/laughing/etc. and other guests above us coming back late at night. The bathroom, although not shared, is not part of the unit. It is located in the hallway beside the unit which is part of the main home, next to the stairway used to access the main floor/front door and the upper airbnb unit. This made returning to the unit after showering and using the washroom in the night awkward. Additionally, there is no shower, although the tub has a long shower head attachment and full shower curtain so you can wash standing. Lastly, and I realize this is a total tourist thing and our fault for not researching further but although Brooklyn is known for recent development as a trendy area, Bed-Stuy is still considered an unsafe area (according to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Safety Maps and local New Yorkers we met in Manhattan....This included a homeless guy helping us with the subway who looked utterly shocked we were staying there, indicating he used to live there). I went for coffee and bagels our first morning at a cute place down the street and the server made a derogatory comment about tourists (implying tourists don't know what "real money" is and try to use $50s). While I'm not sure if he was referring to me (I paid with a $20), we didn't feel overly welcome in the neighbourhood. Subhana was helpful and very responsive during our time there. The unit is beautiful and spacious, clean, comfy bed. All the good travel necessities available like hair dryer, iron & ironing board, umbrellas.
Thank you for the comments. All the best!
