I have traveled much in vietnam,, stayed in a lot of hotels and all other sorts of accommodations, and no where have i felt as comfortable as i have staying here. I am staying in the larger room on the 2nd floor, and the bed is the best i have ever slept in while in vietnam. the room has great windows that open fully, shuttered and when closed offer quietness and privacy. the location is perfect, not far from the city center, takes just a few minutes by moto, or 5 or 10 walking. this area i have stayed in before and like it much, mostly all vietnamese, few westerners around, and very quite and low key. the sounds of early morning activity are muted and seldom jarring.
the open market is just outside the door, taking less than a minute to access, while a 'supermarket' is about 5 minutes away by walking. the room itself is large and roomy, perfect for 1 one, perhaps 2, and has a very good, clean bathroom that will accommodate any westerner. there is a small kitchen area, mostly just a counter, with a sink and space for an induction hot plate microwave and enough room to prepare meals. i cook a lot but find it easier to just use a slow cooker...
if you are an adept cook, you will little problems, but you will find it easier to keep your meals simple. a small refrigerator is also included and works perfectly.
the host and his wife are as helpful as one would ever desire....any problem you find you might have they will help you with if you ask, ...other wise you will have as much privacy as you would expect back in your own home. i have been here a month and have never been disturbed by any other residents, ... i cannot overstate the value i put on privacy, a commodity in short supply in vietnam. if you stay long, you start feeling like it is home, and it is pretty much as comfortable as any place you will find for the value with cushioned chairs unlike the hard wooden chairs so popular throughout the land.
i have looked hard for anything that irritates me, but have not been successful at doing so. normally i don't trust 'glowing reports' but this home deserves it....just a really nice place to stay in a strange city, offering a refuge from the daily barrage of hi-intensity energy that hanoi is capable at throwing at you. the host and wife are both very proficient with english and easy to communicate with.
if i was coming bak to vietnam, and i often do, i would delay my trip if this room was already booked and then come when it was again open. that's how comfortable i feel staying here and as an old cranky guy, it's hard and frustrating not to find anything to gripe about.
totally recommend, a super place and a super host.
