This gorgeous traditional Creole hardwood home sits just foot steps away from the north shores of the very tranquil and picturesque Crooked Tree lagoon. This places the property up, front, and center of the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, which has been recognized as a Wetlands of International Importance, and designated a World Heritage Site as a waterfowl habitat under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands - making it, truly, a birder's haven!!!
This inviting and cozy well designed and laid out vacation rental, puts you at ease and at home, from the very moment you step foot in it. The fresh, cool, and rejuvenating breeze of the lagoon just in front, sends you involuntarily into relaxation mode.
Fall asleep to the sound of waves, as they splash on the shores only yards away. Wake up to the sound of sweet melodies of so many different birds as they sing in the trees nearby. Be the first to catch a glimpse of the Northern Jacana, or the very elusive Sungrebe in their natural habitat just outside you doors.
From this birders' haven, you will have the opportunity to explore over 16,400 acres of lagoons, creeks, logwood swamps, broadleaf forest and pine savannas where you are guaranteed to see a wide array of wildlife including the globally endangered Central American River Turtle (locally known as Hicatee), Mexican Black Howler Monkey, and Yellow-headed Parrot, and depending on the time of the year you may also be lucky to see Crooked Tree’s most famous resident - the Jabiru stork.
“When I am in Crooked Tree I immediately become human again. It must be the fresh, clean, unpolluted air, the simplicity of the people, and the authenticity of life in this Creole community that puts me out-of-touch with the pressures of life and in-touch with everything that truly matters.
Here, I can be one with myself, I can be one with my family, I can be one with a community that has proudly maintained its rich, authentic, traditional ways of living. When all is said and done, I am one with See Belize, and I am sure that you will be too!!! ( no pun intended - Lol )
Guest have access to the entire house together to the 2 acres of lagoon front land on which the house sits.
Although we are on call 24 hours and a member of staff will always be only 5 mins away, we give our guest the opportunity and respect to carry on as a family without intrusion with the comfort of knowing that we will always be there when they need us.
Prior to retirement from the Belize Defence Force in February of 2015 I held the post of Chief of Staff. As a military aircraft pilot I know Belize inside out. So I certainly know all the fun, exciting and adventurous places to go in Belize.
I view myself as a multi-dimensional person who is competent on land (as a Jungle Warfare Instructor), air (as an Instrument Flight Training Instructor), and on sea (as a sailor, wind surfer, snorkeler, scuba diver, and boat captain).
My favorite past time are: fishing, bird-watching, kayaking, hunting, biking, and sharing my beautiful country with new friends from across the world.
My motto is: Live life as if today is your last day on earth.
