An apartment in the heart of Galicia. This large apartment occupies one floor in an old traditional Galician house situated in the riverside village of Barra de Mino. It is ideally located with stunning views of the Rio Mino and the surrounding mountains. It is also only 10 kilometers to Ourense city and its many attractions. Perfect balance of pace for those looking to explore the countryside of the Sacra Riberia and for the faster evening pace of city nightlife.
This beautiful old house is full of character and rustic charm. It is very spacious with many little nooks and crannies to explore. You will the privacy of your own apartment with two double rooms, bathroom, kitchen, balcony, breakfast room and dining room. You also have access to other areas of the house including the bodega/pool room, garden, the galleria and roof top terrace (both with panoramic views of the river and mountains). The perfect space to wind-down after a long day with a glass of vino or the local Café Liquor. The bright and airy double bedrooms also face the river with stunning views and have easy access to the balcony for your morning coffee and smoothie! This region has a micro climate and, unlike other areas of Galicia, has very hot summers. However, there are plenty of spaces such as the shaded rooftop terrace to escape the heat but also enjoy the views.
Guests have access to the apartment as well as the rest of the house that includes well equipped kitchens with their own fridge and cupboard space. You can also take advantage of the garden, roof top terrace and the bodega with pool table and barbeque.
You will be welcomed by me upon arrival with a tour of the house, coffee and a refreshing smoothie. Although I'm from Dublin and new to Galicia I'd be happy to share my limited but growing knowledge of the area and give ideas of what to do during your stay to make it an enjoyable experience.
It is only me living in the house but occasionally I have family and friends visit. While it is a friendly atmosphere and I enjoy meeting fellow travelers you will also have privacy and easily able to retreat to your apartment or other areas of the house such as the balcony or rooftop terrace for peace and relaxation.
This house is a work in progress and some areas are still a little grubby and need to be painted. Regardless, the apartment is fully restored and well equipped to ensure a very pleasant and comfortable stay. At present I´m working on the outside area and will take any help or advice on how to grow a Gallaecian vegetable garden!
Also, while I do ask guests to respectful in terms of privacy and noise levels I also want you to enjoy your stay. Ultimately you are free to treat this house as your own home where you can feel comfortable and relaxed.
I can accommodate larger bookings with more people as there is another double rooms in the apartment and more in other parts of the house. Please message me to check availability.
While you have the freedom to come and go as you please and the privacy of your own apartment I ask that there is no excessive noise after 12pm during the week. This is also non-smoking inside the house but you may, of course, smoke on the balcony and in the garden.
- reasonably quiet after 12pm
I´ve recently moved to Galicia because, well because it´s Galicia! Anyone who´s been here will know what I mean. I initially came to finish writing a PhD in sociology but fell in love with the scenery, the people and the perfect pace of life and so decided to buy this house (something I could never afford to do in Dublin). It´s not a restoration job but it does need work and I would gratefully accept any advice you have regarding growing vegetables, planting vines, restoring furniture and the refined skills required for soft furnishing. As you can see from some of the photos it is a work in progress but I am looking forward to seeing the space evolve over the next months and years and meeting new people who can help it grow. Ultimately I hope to make the place into a retreat for artists, writers, cooks, yoga and meditation enthusiasts or anyone else who wishes to escape from the increasingly individualist and materialist world. The money earned from Airbnb will therefore go into improving the house to meet that end!
So for now I´m continuing writing my thesis and looking forward to meeting new people, sharing a bottle of vino on the rooftop terrace and improving my Spanish.
There are loads of other rooms in the house so if you are more than two and interested in staying message me and we´ll see what we can arrange.
