The Captain is a home from home, a interesting city centre wide beam boat that sleeps up to six people. Beautifully designed by Will Trickett this is not your average accommodation! The boat is bespoke and hand crafted with reclaimed woods from Somerset churches and schools, with amazing carpentry and a genuine warmth.
We are committed to welcoming people from all backgrounds to the boat. Please message me if you need any more information. PLEASE ALSO FULLY READ THE LISTING BEFORE BOOKING
The boat is officially a wide beam narrow boat - meaning it is the same shape as a canal boat but double the width, giving you space to stretch and spaces to play hide and seek.
The boat is pretty unique and the perfect place for families, couples and friends to stay over whilst also being pretty perfect for business too.
It is a cosy sanctuary minutes away from the city bustle in the heart of Cottonopolis. It is a unique boatique experience and one which have you going home and packing it all in to come and join the river rats.
The boat is heated in the winter by a coal burning Rayburn.
Guests are welcome to use the boat as their own and all fresh laundry will be provided.
The boat is moored 10 minutes from the Northern Quarter and has marina facilities such as extra showers, toilets, barbecue area and picnic tables.
On arrival and departure only. Unless in emergency or if complaints are made by neighbours.
We hope you'll find the boat a real home from home. However, we hope you'll also understand that life on a boat isn't exactly the same as life in bricks and mortar. Our heating comes from a coal burning Rayburn, which is lovely and cosy but will require some of your attention. The electrics may occasionally trip if they get overloaded (this is easily sorted and we can talk you through it if needed). The toilet is an electric flush toilet and needs to be treated as such. These systems might not be the same as the ones that you are used to on land, and as such there may well be the odd tick. So if all that sounds like something too far beyond your comfort zone, or what you're really after is a hotel or apartment, a narrowboat break might not be for you. But if you're looking for a completely unique experience stay in a beautifully made property, like the idea of being greeted by swans at the window when you wake up in the morning, or are interested in getting a feel for a completely different way of living, you'll find the Captain just the ticket.
The boat is twice the width of your average canal boat so you have extra space to stretch. On entering the Captain you clamber down Edward VIII's very own steps salvaged from his yacht the Nihall. You can then relax on the sofa or have long lunches around the table.
Sorry the boat has no land line and therefore no internet (sadface).
We generally have a two night minimum stay at weekends but sometimes can accommodate for just the one night. Please contact us via an enquiry if this is something you are interested in.
The toilet is simple and electronic and swirls all things away into a massive tank. However it will not digest any wipes or sanitary products so please never put them down. You will be charged for a call out plumber if the toilet blocks.
By all means have an ace time but the marina is a quiet neighbourhood and noise and unsocial behaviour will not be tolerated. We will be alerted if anybody is upset or put out by guests behaviour and the deposit will be taken as compensation to those put out.
We LOVE our neighbours, the marina is full of the loveliest, kindest and best people in the world and we do not want to anger any of them. They range from new-borns to re-borns so please do respect. Just be considerate - that is all we ask.
The boat is static and not licensed to be moved.
