Casa Colibri is a tranquil and elegant Mexico Pacific Ocean vacation home on the Riviera Nayarit, one of the last unspoiled seacoasts in Mexico. Relax in secluded luxury, pampered by your personal chef and housekeeper.
We're located on Punta el Custodio, a private gated hideaway of 14 villas, 74 miles north of the Puerto Vallarta airport. You can rent a car at the airport, or arrange for our taxi/van pickup and drop-off service at a reasonable cost.
Casa Colibri sleeps eight adults in four air-conditioned bedrooms. It’s nestled within a tropical jungle with private gardens of lushly growing trees, exotic plants and flowers. The stairways down to the ocean are just 50 yards away.
The villa is really a small "palapa village" consisting of four separate structures, three of them with soaring conical palapa roofs. They're connected by a vine-covered walkway. In among and surrounding the four structure are tropical gardens, with varying blooms, including wild orchids, depending on the season.
A few yards across an estuary lies Playa las Tortugas (Turtle Beach), 12 miles long and one of the most stunning beaches on the entire Riviera Nayarit.
Your meals will be prepared for you in Casa Colibri’s spacious and well-equipped kitchen. You can eat “indoors” in the palapa, or dine al fresco on one of the terraces. The optional meal plan covers three meals a day. As of 2017, the charge for the meal plan is $230 USD/week for adults, $115 USD/week for children age 5-11 and no charge for children under 5. The meal plan includes soft drinks and up to one case of beer (Pacifico or Coronas) per adult per week. Wine and hard liquor are not included, but are available at the Gatehouse store at very reasonable cost. Our rental manager, Ismael Franco (fluent in English) will do his very best to meet special dietary needs or preferences — spicy, bland, vegetarian, vegan — he will not be surprised by any special requests. Your housekeeper/chef, Moña Delgado, will prepare your meals in our fully equipped kitchen, or, if you have a yen to cook for yourselves, please be our guests! But respect our cookware is if it were your own.
Guests have access to the entire villa with the exception of a private storage closet and the laundry room, to which the daily housekeeper has access. Guests also have unlimited access to the common gardens and jungle walkways, the large common pool, the scenic overlooks allowing 270° panoramic views, and two broad stairways to the beach and the tidal estuary.
A short voyage up the estuary will lead you the the feeding grounds of many species of tropical shorebirds and migratory fowl — a times a virtual Serengeti of birds. Or, you can hire a boat and go deep sea fishing, or whale watching (when whales are in season during the winter months, before they return for the summer to Alaskan waters with their new calves).
Despite the lure of Outside Adventure, many guests are so overcome by the beauty of Punta el Custodio that they never leave the Point until the day of departure.
We're Alaskans, so Casa Colibri is our winter home for several two or three week stays a year when we can leave our business in Anchorage. Casa Colibri is not a high-turnover "rental unit" — it's a fully furnished family home, with many personal touches. For most of the year, the villa is available for rent. So, by definition, the villa is available for rent most of the time, because we're 3,500 miles away here in Anchorage!
Casa Colibri consists of four separate structures connected by a vine-covered walkway: the Main Palapa/Kitchen/Full Guest Bathroom and three buildings containing four bedrooms/four bathrooms. We're surrounded by dense jungle which makes the house almost invisible — and private — from the outside. And because of the separation of the bedroom structure, your guests will enjoy extraordinary personal privacy within the villa.
There is cellular service, strongest in the master bedroom. We strongly advise you activate a Mexican data plan for your stay, via your US carrier (AT&T, Verizon, etc.). This will allow you to use your US cellphone as a wireless hotspot.
Casa Colibri accommodates eight adults in four bedrooms. Maximum occupancy, however, is ten people as long as no more of the them are older that 12. This means, for example, that eight adults and two kids under 12, or six adults and four kids under 12, etc., is OK. The reason for the restriction has to do with the capacity of the septic system.
Casa Colibri is not wheelchair or handicapped accessible. The walkways and roadways are cobbled. The stairs the the beach are steep and uneven.
Please be aware that Casa Colibri adheres to Airbnb's "Strict" cancellation policy: Cancel up to 7 days before your trip and get a 50% refund. Cancel within 7 days of your trip and the reservation is non-refundable. We recommend you purchase travel insurance to cover any losses due to unforeseen events, such as illness, airline strikes, severe weather, etc.
While Casa Colibri is suitable for infants and small children, they should not be left unsupervised at any time.
No party noise or loud music is allowed under any circumstances and no sound at all is allowed coming from the villa between 10PM and 8AM. Houses at Punta el Custodio are very close together.
