As much as I regret guests not having a great experience, because we strive to do give people a great NY experience each time! But each person comes with their own perceptions and expectations. We manage 3 different properties all in walking distance from each other. We probably have between 50-100 guests every month. Guests like Alisha are thankfully very rare. Someone that is basically new to airbnb and doesn't understand that in spite of the fact that instead of paying $200-300/night for a cheap hotel room that most likely is not very nice or clean, staying in someone's home is different! We have about 80% of 5-star reviews! Then it trickles down. But I have never ever seen a review as bad and at the same time incorrect!! The room Was ready by the time she arrived! I personally cleaned the room, the kitchen And the bathroom! I saw NO bugs anything! And I see very well I did recently get new glasses haha We have 2 refrigerators! The main large one impossible to miss in the kitchen it is in the photos! And it is fully functioning! (Yes We have a second small one we used to use, we just havent gotten rid of it that one Is broken, why you need 2 refrigerators??) The hairdryer is under the bathroom sink, the iron is available within minutes upon request, as it is in the other room. There are 2 different coffees available. If we are low on sugar or anything else, as ANY decent Airbnb host we always tell each guest that if you need Anything! Have ANY questions we are a text or a phonecall away! Great Customer service is key! But clearly this guest did not understand English perhaps as I did tell her this! Also bare in mind, as mentioned this is not a brand new 5-star hotel or a brand new condominium, it is a charming townhouse over 100yrs old with a Brand new toilet and sink. But the tub is a few years older but the sliding glass walls are also new. No mold or anything! Something that is rare in private homes!
But of course the bathroom Will show some minor use, and also it IS a shared bathroom! So if it is not 100% spotless 24/7 well that is possible even though we do try to keep it CLEAN! And yes a brand new kitchen as well. IF this guest indeed saw all these insects etc I wonder why she did not mention Anything to me during the entire weekend!? She had told me when she arrived that she had an extreme fear of roaches and other insects! I said well we regularly like everyone in NY put out poison to keep bugs away! One has to. This IS New York. And we had just recently done so, so I told her that evening when she text me asking me if we have any roaches? I asked her well I hope not! Have you seen any?? She said NO! I said ok good! She then unfortunately saw One! And took a photo of it, but she did not tell me anything! Well to no surprise perhaps as she did not ask me about the hairdryer, the iron, or anything else either! But she sent this photo to Airbnb AFTER she checked out as booked 3 days later and is now requesting a 20% discount for her entire 3 night weekend stay!!
To say that she left before and only used the room for storage because she had a heavy suitcase?? It was not That heavy! A total lie. She was there every day. And I wonder why she does not mention her friend that arrived late that night as she had missed her flight apparently? She already paid the cheapest price of All of our rooms. $50-$55 in NYC is a steal on a weekend!! Those are our summer prices because we do not have an AC as clearly listed as well! The first thing she complained about upon arriving was her hair getting frizzy because it was humid! Well it IS New York in August it is famous for this! I even contacted her later that evening to offer her an umbrella because I saw that it was going to rain! Like I said, if a guests needs Anything I always tell them to TELL ME! so we can make it happen! Instead of complaining and making up stories after you leave! What to get a discount? Doesn't make sense to me! That is just being dishonest in my book! If you had so many complaints during your stay and you say Nothing until afterwards!? Anyone who reads this and compares her review to my other reviews I think will understand that there is something wrong with her and her story! Because in the end she writes "in hindsight, Joakim was very kind and responsive to all questions." Well YES I always am! But if you cannot look for the hairdryer in the most obvious place, nor ask me. Or ask about the iron, or you cannot see a Huge refrigerator? Or you dont ask or tell me we are low on sugar or one of the coffees??? And you make up these stories about roaches and tell me nothing, but she did see ONE (if she saw more why did she not photograph those??) we will of course immediately put out more poison as it will take care of that! Since I hate bugs! well there is something wrong with this lady, she seems confused and makes up stories. A shame. I wish her well!
