First the good things. The check-in process was easy and the location could not have been better in terms of accessibility to awesome bars, restaurants and public transportation. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean & tidy at first glance when we arrived. Jo was also cool with letting us leave our bags in the room on the last day so that we could venture around before catching our late-afternoon train home.
Now for the negatives and the reasons for my mediocre review. It was a super hot weekend and the tiny window AC takes a long time to cool down the room to a comfortable temperature. When we arrived, we had to leave right away to catch a baseball game at Petco. We left the AC on and it was still really warm in the room when we got back about 4 hours later. Once we later returned to the room is also when we noticed the bugs. First it was a few dead cockroaches in the kitchen sink and then as we looked more, we started finding them everywhere, both dead and alive. Found more in the kitchen, around the toilet, in the oven, on the floor and on the headboard. There had to be at least 30-40 of them in the cabinet under the bathroom sink (I have pictures). Woke up to one crawling in my hair (thankfully me and not my wife). It wasn't just our apartment either, it's the whole building. We found them all over the stairs leading up to the place. My wife wanted to get a hotel instead, but since it was labor day weekend, rates were through the roof for anything nearby. They don't really bother me but I certainly wouldn't want to cook knowing that they are likely crawling on every piece of kitchenware, which basically makes having a kitchen useless. It's also tough to comprehend that we spent over $150 per night on a place infested with roaches. If I wanted roommates, I would have stayed at a $40 hostel.
