I stayed at this property August 18-29 to attend the Bayreuth Festival. Although I was on my own, the apartment is large enough for up to four (with two bedrooms). It has a well-equipped eat-in kitchen, large open living room/dining room areas, and a good-sized bathroom (no tub, but a good shower; also washer/dryer). The apartment is part of a multi-story, multi-use building that also includes the owner's business. Frank was on-site on my arrival, and showed me around. Communications leading up to my arrival were excellent. The location is very good. It's a five minute walk to Haus Wahnfried, then another five minutes into the heart of the town. It's a 30-35 minute walk up to the Festival Theatre. There's a bus stop about 3 minutes away, with buses into downtown (302 and 306) on a fairly frequent schedule (and, if you're going to the Festival, an easy transfer to 305). Note that bus schedules are available online in English and (EMAIL HIDDEN), which covers the greater Nuremburg area. There are a couple of very good places to eat close by on Richard Wagner St., which Wieland Wagner St. joins just a few minutes walk from the apartment beyond the ring road. You'll come to the Italian restaurant, Carpaccio, just before Haus Wahnfried and Brauerei Schinner just beyond (my favourite German restaurant in Bayreuth). Beyond Schinner's and before you get into the town core, there are more restaurants, a couple of bakeries, a butcher and stores that sell household and personal products. A short walk from the apartment away from the town will take you to a Lidl supermarket, with a bakery and butcher next door, as well as DM outlet, which will cover all household/personal needs. There is also a gas station adjacent to the apartment property, which has some food/drink. The apartment is quiet, and has good lighting. It's a fairly recent renovation, so is in very good shape. There's a large flat-screen TV in the living room, a small tv in the larger bedroom. Wifi connection was immediate and strong on iPad and iPhone. Frank is a very helpful and accommodating host (to the point of personally driving me to the railway station on my departure). Since this was a repeat visit to Bayreuth, I had no need for assistance, but he lives and works in the building, so is easily contactable for help. Highly recommended; I would have absolutely no hesitation about staying here again.
We stayed in Frank’s apartment whilst visiting the Bayreuth Festival in 2017. We were immediately impressed with the modern, clean and very spacious accommodation. After welcoming us in his shop, which is in the same block as the apartment, Frank showed us round. The kitchen is well equipped and comes with a helpful folder of instructions for all the appliances. We didn’t need the cooking facilities for our short stay, but everything was there if we had. If a full shop is needed there is a Lidl supermarket about a half a mile away. For immediate needs there are garages very close that sell milk, bread etc. A minor problem with the broadband was quickly fixed by Frank and a colleague, after which it was very fast and reliable. The bathroom had a powerful shower, but no bathtub. It also contains a washing machine and a tumble dryer, which would be very handy if we were to stay longer. The main bedroom, which we occupied, was spacious, quiet and very comfortable with lots of wardrobe space. There was also a smaller double bedroom and what looked like a bed-settee in the living area - so quite a large party could be accommodated. The lounge was split into two areas each with comfortable seating in the form of armchairs and settees. A formal dining table was in one and a 50” TV in the other. It was obvious that a lot of effort had been put into getting the décor and lighting just right. We travelled to the apartment on public transport. A short bus ride from the railway station drops you 50 yards from the front door. For guests travelling by car there appeared to be adequate parking at the rear of the building on land belonging to Frank’s shop. One problem we had was trying to arrange a taxi to take us to the Bayreuth Festival Theatre. Uber and MyTaxi do not work in Bayreuth and our UK mobile failed to get the attention of any of the cab firms Frank had recommended. We asked him if he would telephone using his landline and after finding out when we needed transport he immediately offered to take us. He dropped us off in the theatre car park, which added greatly to our enjoyment of a memorable day. When we left for the station, after completing our stay, Frank’s daughter drove us there. Obviously they won’t be able to do this for everybody, but we got the impression that our enjoyment was his first concern and the help with transport was very much appreciated. We would not hesitate to stay in Frank’s apartment if we travel to Bayreuth again - in fact if it was not available we would be disappointed.
