Casa de Luz (House of Light) lives up to it's name with plenty of natural light and great air flow. Set on a quiet residential dead-end street, there is little traffic yet a close 10 min walk to El Jardin (central plaza). Enjoy warm days and nights on the rooftop with plenty of seating and an outdoor entertainment area with BBQ. Opening of the automatic retractable roof allows the aroma from the nearby panaderia greet you each morning. We have a four night stay minimum at the house.
Sleeping for 7 in three bedrooms with three baths, remote controlled retractable ceiling plus large rooftop patio are all here for your enjoyment. Large dining table will seat your whole group. Wifi and cable TV will keep you connected if that's your wish. The house has modern conveniences but keeps that definite Mexican flare.
All areas of the house are available for your use. We have one small locked closet that has our personal belongings but there are plenty of cupboards, closets and drawers for all of your things.
We have a wonderful, professional property manager, her name is Jessica. Her business is to keep our guests happy and she will always be just a phone call/text away. Please look to the "House Welcome Book" (blue binder in the bookcase on property) for her contact information.
During the rainy season you will not be able to open the skylight. All other times of the year it is important to close the skylight when you leave the house as you never know what the weather will do.
We provide a start-up supply of the necessities (i.e. toilet tissue, paper towels, etc.) if you run out there are many stores in which to stock up. There are extra towels/sheets in each of the bedroom drawers or armoire. The iron and ironing board are in the 'rose room' closet. Remember 'C' means caliente (hot) 'F' frio (cold) on faucet handles. Please do not move our furniture.
IMPORTANT: Trash pick-up is Monday and Friday mornings usually between 8:00am - 11:00am sometimes later. You will hear someone coming up the street ringing a bell to alert you the trash truck is on its way. If you want your trash removed you will need to step outside with your bag of trash and hand it to the men. They separate the recycle as they take it in so a few pesos tip is appreciated.
We have selected our decor for it's simplicity, comfort and beauty - please treat it with respect.
We guarantee that San Miguel will charm you and we are happy to share our Casa de Luz with you!
If checking in on a Sunday, we will need to make special arrangements with our property manager to meet you. Please send an inquiry well in advance of your reservation. During Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays the minimum stay is 7 nights.
I am one half of a retired, traveling couple. We (John) and I have lived and visited over 50 countries. John was in the Peace Corps in the late 1960's in Southeast Asia and we returned to live there (Borneo) in the late 1980's for a couple of years, along with our two young children. We spent 2010 traveling throughout Mexico and Central America, 2011 cris-crossing the US & Canada and we spent 2013 living in Mexico and Guatemala. Five things we can't live without are good health, family, friends, good food and travel experiences. We have many hobbies, mine are painting, gardening, reading, sewing and riding my bike. John loves baseball (plays senior softball), he is a great cook and sings with a senior chorus and we are now playing in a bocce ball league. We both also volunteer for literacy and feeding programs. Our favorite destinations are Bali, Thailand/Vietnam, Mexico, Guatemala and Barbados. My favorite trip was to China for the 2008 Olympics with 9 members of our family. Maine was our latest trip, kayaking & exploring Lake Sebago, Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor - - oh, and eating lots of lobster. Our motto is: Adventure before Dementia.
