This cute little beach house is much more spacious than the photos let on. It is situated in a beautiful beach neighborhood, and two blocks from the beach! The beach is quiet, with a lot of room to spread out your blankets and relax! The neighborhood is quiet - no loud parties or people roaming up and down the streets in the middle of the night. Very residential.
We were greeted by a bottle of wine and a welcome note from Margaret, the neighbor across the street that serves as concierge. There are brochures of things to do/where to eat in the foyer, as well as a list from Mary where to go for meals and entertainment.
Each bedroom is roomy and has a ceiling fan which is so welcome. The bathroom is one of those 1950's style bathrooms - pedestal sink, toilet, tub/shower combo. We were 2 adults and 3 teen-agers and we fared okay - thanks to the outdoor shower, which was roomy. The "half bath" was the only disappointment - there is a toilet in the laundry room that is enclosed in a cabinet so small that you cannot easily shut the door and sit on the toilet - no room for your knees to go! There is still privacy in there, and we were glad for a second toilet.
A plus was that linens, towels and beach towels were provided. The laundry room was great. There are umbrellas, beach chairs, Frisbees and other beach games available, as well as indoor board games, and books to peruse. There is also a Wii console, so if you have any gaming addicted guests, lure them outside to the beach if possible! I took one of the cruiser bikes out for a spin, but soon discovered the chain was loose and kept falling off! Luckily I made it back, and Margaret's husband came over and repaired it right away.
The kitchen has older appliances, but they all work great - the coffee maker is new. Lots of gadgets, cookware, plates and glassware/mugs. The house is very clean and welcoming.
It is about a 10 minute drive south to get to the main, touristy part of Virginia Beach - 31st street has the outdoor concerts nightly and the giant statue of Neptune on the boardwalk. Northbound is another 10-15 minute drive to First Landing State Park, which has lots of beautiful nature trails, and an interesting visitor's center, where you can see live animals/snakes native to the area. Closest grocery stores are about 10 minutes away.
We would definitely return for another stay at this lovely beach house. Great value and great location! We felt at home! Thanks, Mary & Margaret!
