We have had a wunderful time at L'Isola, the location, the pool and the house were stunning. On top of that the great and warm hospitality from Eugenia en Auguste, we really felt at home. We have had a very relaxing holiday en we really want and hope to come back.

Beautiful location, within walking distance of the village but yet its own island of seclusion. Incredible location.

Staying at Villa Isola is an experience we will cherish . The house was built in the 1500s as a hunting lodge and has stayed in the same family ever since. The house is full of pictures and family objects going back centuries. For those of you with an interest in Italian poetry, this was the house that Torquato Tasso wrote "La Canzone al Metauro" in 1578. From the villa you can walk into Fermignano in about 5 minutes and drive into Urbino in about 10 minutes. We had 2 bedrooms on the first floor which looked out past the private chapel towards the pool. The bathroom was across the hall and up a few stairs. The house is large enough not to get under anyone's feet. The swimming pool is simply marvellous and came in handy after a day of sight-seeing in 40C weather. Its long enough to actually get some exercise in and was always warm. The kitchen is simply furnished but had all we needed, a fridge-freezer and couple of electric rings to cook pasta and meat, and an oven, toaster and coffee machine (which we never used). There is a good-sized table to eat inside the kitchen but we much preferred to eat outside under the shade of one of the many trees which dot the garden. Breakfast outside was a treat which we sorely miss now that we are back in the UK. Perhaps the best part of the whole week was getting to know Eugenia, her husband and Marco. Eugenia told us what to visit in Urbino and Marco told us the best places to get gelato and crescia sfogliata. Eugenia not only suggested a restaurant to celebrate my daughter's birthday but booked it and then drove with her husband to show us the way. When we wanted to go horse riding, Eugenia made a few phone calls, arranged it and then drove in front of us to show us the way. She also suggested a great beach to visit which was much less crowded than the beaches at Pesaro. The house was a real treat but Eugenia and her family outshone it.

We had a wonderful time of ten days staying in the historical mansion of L'isola near Fermignano! Eugenia and her husband Augusto were our hosts and were very welcoming and helpful in any question or need we might have had. The two rooms are part of the historic ambience of the building. Our kids have reiterated many times that it was wonderful to live - as they phrased it - "in a museum". The furniture, the paintings, the old fireplace-kitchen, the little chappel made for a historic athmosphere that inspires one minds to travel back in the past. However, the presence has some advantages as well. The kitchen that was dedicated for our private use was well equipped and had a modern electric stove, an espresso machione, Toaster, a little oven and most important: a large fridge with a well sized ice-box integrated. The park surrounding the mansion and the pool make the place ideal for recreation allowing for rest and peacefulness as much as for fun and action, of which our kids (aged 10 and 12) preferred the later ;) ! The further surrounding of the location - just a short foot walk distance to the historic city of Fermignano and a short 15 minutes drive to Urbino with the famous Palazzo Ducale - is perfect. Even the sea at Fano, Pesaro, or at the picturesque beaches of Sirolo is by car fairly near in reach, although we preferred the small rivers and streams in the surrounding mountains such as the Furlo Gorge. A place to visit are the caves of Frasassi. An absolute personal highlight were the joined meals with Eugenia and her husband Augusto. Your Tagliatelle con Ragu have been most delicious!!! Full of gratitude we look back to the wonderful time we had in the Villa L'isola, and we can recommend this place wholeheartedly!
