Located on the Detroit River overlooking the Belle Isle bridge and scenic Riverwalk, just 2 miles from downtown. You can look forward to exceptionally comfortable mattresses, a kitchen stocked with breakfast essentials, and local guidance from my mom and I, who literally helped write the guidebook on Detroit (WildSam Field Guides). The building has gated parking and is adjacent to a Coast Guard base and Mt. Elliott Park. The perfect home base for a couple, single traveler, or small friend group.

Experience Detroit while staying in a former iron stove factory loft!
I got this space as a study next door to my living space in the building and as a "guest house" for friends to stay at when they visit. The loft is an open studio except for the bathroom but there is a divider. The kitchen has all the basic essentials and utensils plus coffee, tea, cereal, oatmeal, etc. for breakfast.
Then there are the beds. The queen is a comfortable foam cloud from Tuft and Needle and the day bed is a twin mattress from Casper. Plenty of pillows and fresh soft linens. Everyone also gets a towel and the bathroom has all the toiletries you forgot or TSA stole.
I have an HDTV with a Roku, giving you access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBOGo. Sometimes a reprieve from sightseeing is needed and you just need to re-watch that Game of Thrones episode. I got you. There is also a large table with ample space and fast Internet if you need to get work done.
I have one parking pass and gate opener that guests may use to park in the building's gated lot. These and the key can be left on the counter when you check out.
There is an elevator in the building but I did not list it as an amenity because it is very old and often does not work. I would not count on having elevator access. There is a laundry room just down the hall. You provide the quarters, we provide the detergent.
As little or as much involvement as you like. My mom and I love providing advice on building a sweet Detroit itinerary that suits your interests. We will send you a list of our Detroit favorites when you book and we can go from there.
This is not a luxury loft building and is not priced as such. It is an old factory building converted to lofts and is occupied mostly by artists and musicians. The ceiling is thin and you can hear my neighbors from time to time. Light sleepers may find this annoying. However, I have not had a problem with them being noisy at night and, living here, it does not bother me or my Mom. Whenever it has been a problem, I have reached out to the offending neighbor and it has been fixed right away. Part of living in a shared building :)
Just follow the golden rule: treat the space how you would want your space treated and we should get along fine. Be respectful of my neighbors in your noise level. No candles please and NO SMOKING at all in the loft.
Do not open the windows or adjust air conditioning units in the windows. They are historic windows and are handled by the building staff.
Please observe the check in and check out times. We can sometimes accommodate early check in or late check out, but usually we cannot because of other bookings and our cleaning team. If you need to arrive early or leave late, send us a message and we will try our best.
If you want to use my loft for filming, photography, or generally anything other than accommodation then you must discuss that with me in advance.
There is a $50 fee for a lost key and $75 fee for a lost gate opener.
There is an elevator in the building but it is usually broken.
