Historic wonder in charming Carrabelle! For a taste of the past, join us in our large restored circa 1900 home overlooking a working harbor. Huge covered porches offer front row seating to outstanding sunsets in a surprisingly private setting in the heart of town. Come to be lazy and relax, or venture out to fish, hike, kayak, eat, shop, watch birds, boats and sunsets. Carrabelle is a friendly little place with "Forgotten Coast" charm.
You will see right away why we call this place "our secret hideout" with its canopy driveway leading to private hilltop splendor. In particular, everyone LOVES our porches with the best views in town. It's a big house so you will have plenty of privacy during your stay. Your room and bath are private and you share remaining spaces with hosts. The Belle has been carefully restored and is furnished with comfort in mind but is not well suited for young children. Self-serve organic coffee and tea are provided and we keep some spices and condiments around too in case you feel like cooking.
We have a large carport where you can stow bikes, beach gear, canoes, kayaks, etc. We can accommodate your trailered boat too. Carrabelle has 2 public boat ramps and a public fish cleaning bench about a block from The Belle.
Plan to enjoy all the common spaces in our home. It's a big old house with large rooms, comfy furnishings and lots of options for hanging out. Relax on the huge porches (side porch is screened) with stunning views of the harbor, river and sound. Bedrooms have direct access to the porches. Parking is off street - access The Belle via SE Ave C where you will see a propped open gate, and big blue flag.
We greet all guests to provide keys and a quick overview so you can come and go as you please. We like sharing our space with others and getting acquainted with our guests, but you decide how much contact you want. We can chit-chat your ear off, totally ignore you, or anything in between - your choice. Our goal is to meet your needs for a pleasant stay.
In an effort to minimize footprints on the planet we ask that you use water, AC, heat, towels, etc. respectfully. We recycle and compost most waste items . No smoking in the house or on porches (out back is okay). We CANNOT accommodate your pets. We do not have TV but free WiFi allows you to stream from your own devices. And last, NO fish cleaning in our kitchen. There's a public fish cleaning station one block away.
- Owner is VERY sensitive to smoke smells. This is a STRICTLY non-smoking property. Like a hospital, you must be far removed from the building to smoke outdoors, and please, no butts on the ground or placed in indoor trash bins.
- Very old house - please understand it has special little quirks and considerations.
- Quiet hours between 11 PM and 8 AM.
- The ancient dune this house sits on is ecologically fragile and NOT suitable for foot traffic.
August 2017 - Martha is the primary host and The Belle is our part-time coastal home. Vince (husband) is usually present if you book on a weekend. We have 2 grown kids and 3 little grans. I am from a huge family and grew up having many, many people stay in our home, so hosting and traveling via Airbnb is comfortable and familiar to me. We like the beach, spicy food, reading, walking/hiking and hanging out with good people. We purchased The Belle in September 2015 and after 18+ months of restoration work are thrilled to share this gem with others.
