Thank you again for your stay with us. Also thank you for taking the time to review us. Constructive criticism is always good for the improvement of one’s services to future guests, if they merit consideration given the constraints and other factors that go into making improvements to environment. As I mentioned to you and your wife when you arrived, my home is an old home which is slowly being brought back to her former beauty, slowly but surely. I mentioned in my email to you, that there are certain things I have control over and there are others I do not- to a certain extent. Yonkers, one of the beautiful River Towns is coming to her own. The rate at which it turns around I don’t control but certainly contribute- I am proud to say and I am sure many of my Airbnb host neighbors, would agree, we are very proud of contributing to the socio-economic growth of our city, via our living and participating in the many things Yonkers has to offer, but also via Airbnb.
When you describe the neighborhood as ‘rough’, what exactly do you mean? As compared to what in your experience? For the benefit of readers who are considering an Airbnb in Yonkers, it would be fair to describe what about Yonkers and my neighborhood you find rough? For many, like myself, it would read ‘unsafe’. I am pretty sure you would agree, facts and perceptions are two different things. However, for many perceptions are everything. In December of 2016, the FBOI, Federal Bureau of Investigation reported, as per our Mayor’s report, Yonkers ranked #2 as the safest large city in the United States, among the 150 top cities by population. In addition, the Mayor and Yonkers Police Department reported the following:
· Yonkers has the second lowest crime rate of all U.S. cities with a population between 190,000 and 250,000.
· Yonkers has the second lowest crime rate of the top 25 cities in New York State.
· Yonkers has the lowest crime rate among New York’s big five cities (New York City, Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse).
· Yonkers has a lowest crime rate among Westchester County’s big cities (Mount Vernon, White Plains and New Rochelle)
Why do I bother to mention this? First, while I understand we all have different expectations and comfort zones which are important, facts are key and just as important in the decision making process. Secondly, I am a transplant from Manhattan and I have fallen in love with Yonkers, warts and all.
Now to toot my own horn, humbly (humility is truth), it would have been great to point how we went beyond your expectations. When you were inquiring, you requested, if at all possible, couched in the phrase “may I twist your arm” in getting a 10% discount. I agreed to give you the discount based on a 5 night instead of a 7 night stay. What would have turned out to be a 5 day stay turned out to be a 4 day, because of confusion with booking. I went ahead and deducted 10% of my payout and handed you a check, this in line with keeping my word. I take pride in what we offer because we love it. It is nice to be recognized for things that others do too to make life pleasurable.
