Are you looking for a quiet area, in a cosy cabin traditionally decorated, without modern comforts? Are you looking for a place with great opportunities for hiking, fishing or cross-country skiing? Then this is the place for you. The surrounding area has several marked and unmarked paths for hiking, and the terrain is great for both experienced and less experienced hikers. You can choose between short or long hikes, and most of it will be though undisturbed nature.
The area is a traditional "seter"-area, the summer pasture, an area where the local farmers would bring their livestock in the spring and the women would stay there for the summer, tending to the animals. This cabin is located at the top of this area, so it feels very private and quiet.
The old name for the cabin is "Solhaug", meaning sunny hill, and the name is very appropriate. The view is fantastic, and you can see towards the beautiful Rondane mountains.
Livestock are still released in this area, so in the summers there will be sheep and cattle crazing in the areas around.
My cabin is located within the old family "seter" and has been used by my family since the 50's. They still collect sheep in the pasture every fall. I live a bit far from it myself, so I am renting it out in periods when my family or I are not using it. I have spent many summers and Easters here, and would love for other people to have this experience also.
The cabin has a hallway with good storage, a small but functional kitchen with a gas stove, and a living room with a kitchen table and a wood burning stove. You can remove the door to the stove and use a grid instead, to make it work like an open fireplace. Behind the living room are the bedrooms and the wash area. The bedrooms both have bunk beds, and are separated by curtains.
There is no electricity or running water, but the gas stove for cooking is brand new, and there are also solar panels for lights. The toilet is an outhouse, pretty basic but relatively new. It’s all part of the authentic experience!
You get water from a nearby well. In the winter you get water by melting snow (Don't worry, there is no pollution here).
You will have the whole cabin and the outside area to yourself. It is located within the family "seter", but the other buildings are rarely used, so mostly you will be alone here at the top of the road.
I am available by phone if you have any questions, and please feel free to ask me questions about the area. I grew up close by, and have spent my entire childhood here, so I know the area pretty well.
You need to bring your own linen and towels. Duvets and pillows are provided. You also need to clean after yourself, and bring all your trash with you. Hang up any used and wet dish towels and rags.
Cell phone reception can be a bit sporadic. It is usually better if you walk a fem meters higher up. There is good 4G-cover, though.
Please be respectful of the cabin, interior and exterior, and also of the surrounding areas. Do not leave any trash outside, not even sigarette butts or snuff.
You need to clean the cabin after yourself, leave it as you would like to find it. Bring all your trash when leaving.
