What is the weather like? Beautiful! We get 165 inches of rain in the average year. Actually, it is not as bad as you might think. In settled trade wind weather, it tends to rain mainly at night clearing by 9-10 in the morning. Get ready for a wonderful time at the beach, farmers markets and other outdoor excursions. In unsettled weather, it can rain at anytime. It can rain very hard too! Rates of over 2-3 inches per hour are not unheard of over short periods of time. It is always a blessing! It is fun to dance in the rain but we provide umbrellas.
Our temperature is somewhat cooler than Hilo because of the elevation. On a clear winter night temperature will dip into the upper 50's. Dress in layers! On a hot summer day it will reach the mid 80's. Usually it is quite comfortable.( OLCA website)
We have an honor system farm stand in front of the house. You can check it out and purchase additional items to complement your home cooked meal. Let me know if you are interested in a catered vegetarian meal and/or bento boxes for a reasonable fee.
At night you will be serenaded by coqui frogs and other sounds of nature. In the morning, you will hear a symphony of sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens from neighboring farms.
The main house where I live is connected to the ohana but a 4 car garage and my office/gift shop separates it from your space. You will enjoy lots of privacy.
Please park your car under the tent in front of the house when you arrive. We close the gate at night. However, I will leave it open for you and you can close it when you get home.
A barbecue grill, an outdoor table with chairs are provided for your outdoor dining pleasure. Please clean the grill and all cooking items after each use. There's also a hammock for reading during the day, gazing at clouds, sunset, stars and moon on a magical night.
Let me know if you want to pick some vegetables/herbs in the garden for a quick salad or stir fry. We take pride in maintaining an organic garden and will gladly share them with our guests.
