Please respect the neighbourhood. Don't drag your luggage on the wood stairs and loud music after midnight, thanks.

Phillippe's home is a true romantic hideaway in the heart of Alfama, Lisbon's oldest and most famous neighborhood. A lovely door on the street opens onto a tiny, lush courtyard, filled with flowers and plants, just big enough for a couple of chairs and a small table for shade on a hot day. Stairs lead up to a sunny roof terrace with terrific views up and over the rooftops of Alfama as the sun sets and they day cools (also lovely in the morning). Sliding glass doors open to a comfortable living and dining room. Kitchen and bath were very modern, clean, well equipped. The bed was large and comfortable. More glass doors opening to the courtyard allowed for plenty of sun with privacy from the courtyard. The neighborhood includes many tourist-oriented restaurants, gift shops and the like, including a number of places to take in fado with dinner. You can also enjoy a free smorgasbord of fado just by strolling down some of the nearby streets later in evening. However, despite the number of foreign couples staying in the neighborhood, this is still a residential neighborhood, where neighbors gather and talk from the windows in between the midday surges of tourist foot traffic. If you like to make your own food, there is an excellent carnarceiria close by on Rua dos Remedios, many small mercados with limited selections of fruits and vegetables and other essentials. There is a small supermarket at the Apolonia metro station about 10 minutes by foot with everything you'll need. Nearby streets are mainly pedestrian ways and stairways, with little or no auto traffic. The paving is tile or stone and can be very irregular. Sturdy shoes recommended - no stilettos! Metro service from Apolonia is frequent and convenient and the Metro generally is easy, reliable, safe, clean and even occasionally beautiful (some lovely modern tiled stations). Bus service from the stop at the bottom of the hill on Avenida do Infante was generally reliable, although we were left standing once or twice. We used the re-fillable Metro ticket for subway, bus and ferry trips several times a day - we spent about 30 euros for all our transport for the week, including to and from the airport. Phillippe provides a pretty exhaustive guide to Lisbon, including more restaurants than you'll ever get to, but we'll add these three: Cerverjaria Cana Verde on Rua Jardim do Tobacco (on your way to and from transit stops). Simple, inexpensive home-cooked convenience food, which you can order for take-out or eat with the neighbors. A quick take-home roasted chicken was just the perfect dinner solution after a long day of sight-seeing. Beco A Serio - a classy cafe up the hill where we enjoyed some creative tapas - get the tempura broad beans. Still not sure how "beef balls" on the English menu translated into ham and egg pastry on our plates, but who cares? Delicious. Boi-Carvalho - Just five minutes away, Lisbon's leading rebel chef offers a...

Wonderful apartment in a great neighborhood! Philippe and Catherine were very helpful in coordinating as we had an early arrival and our departure moved by a few hours. Would stay here again the next time we're in Lisbon!

Amazing stay in the most wonderful section of Lisbon. Apartment was better then anticipated and we loved the rooftop deck. Fabulous location with great food and entertainment located within steps of the front door. Living with the locals is the best way to go and this place puts you right in the center of it all. Also secluded ebough to enjoy some quiet, private time. Don't forget the Sangria and Ginja!!!!

Phillipe was an amazing host. He responded quickly to any requests and suggested a wonderful driver to tour us thru sintra. HiS home is great wonderful terraces to lounge in. Great wifi great hot shower and roomy it's in quiet neighborhood very residential with lots of cool Resturants and a guidebook to direct me to anything I needed I would recommend this to everyone and hopefully will be back

Philippe responded incredibly quickly to all our inquiries before booking and after. He was forthcoming with information and his love of travel, Lisbon and the house came through in his responses. The house is in a fantastic location, but feels incredibly private and secluded. It was like stepping into a secret garden; the apartment is airy and bright and extremely-well equipped with everything one needs to make oneself at home. It was very clean, the shower was excellent and the beds comfortable. The feature that made it extra special was the roof deck where we sat for hours enjoying the views and the open air meals. I warmly recommend this apartment and would eagerly stay again.

Philippe was a fantastic host! Communication with him was flawless from the beginning to end. The location of the flat in Alfama is incredible, close to Igreja de Sao Vicente De Fora, Panteao Nacional and Pateo 13! A huge bonus of the flat was the rooftop. Grab a glass of Port and listen to the local musicians play early into the morning 2-3 AM at the church behind the flat. Our experience in Lisbon was truly a breath of fresh air and Philippe made our stay very enjoyable. Can't wait to be back in Lisbon and will definitely be staying at Philippe's flat again.
