Cozy room in the folksy neighborhood of Penha de França. Basic but comfortable. Near the main attractions of Lisbon but without the touristy crowds and hassle. A lot of charming, small, traditional local businesses are in the direct neighborhood. All basic needs are within walking distance, as well as the lovely and discrete Miradouro of Monte Agudo with its fantastic view over the city. Same quality as the popular viewpoints but without the noise of Ricksha's or an iPad blocking your view!
Our apartment is simple but cosy. We have quite recently moved in so we are still in the process of giving it the finishing touch. We live here, not in luxury but with the necessary basics.
The room has a double bed in it, shelves to store things and a hanging rack for clothes. There is a table and office chair which are great to work, to send emails to loved ones or check what is happening in town (although you can also just ask us :) ). The room is on the street side of the house and has a single glass window. It is located on the west-south-west side of the house. The room is light with direct sun coming inside, but only in the afternoon, which is a blessing in hot summer months.
The kitchen has everything most people need (oven/stove and fridge), except for a microwave and a dish washer for some ;-).
The bathroom is simple, we have a short of mirrors actually. But it's all being worked on.
Guests are welcome to use bathroom and kitchen. The living room is little bit more restricted since it is our working spot. Welcome to join in the evenings to listen to some music though!
The living room has a couch and dining table. There is a music installation where you can connect a music player (iPod or other) to. We have a collection of beautiful records but ask guests not to play them when we are not home.
We will be around most of the times, and we will kindly give tips you ask for. We will often be working on our computers in the living room or outdoors. Sometimes we can be absent, for example when Melissa has to be in Amsterdam for her job or when we're at Temwa's family in Caldas da Rainha.
- Silence after 22.00. No (loud) music or social gatherings after this hour. Please.
Belgian/Dutch couple with Zambian/Portuguese roots. Temwa is a young sociologist who is starting up a project to stimulate cycling in Lisbon. His girlfriend Melissa is doing anthropological fieldwork for her PhD and travels between Lisbon and Amsterdam. Therefore Temwa is the main host. Temwa is a surf/skate fanatic and loves 60s and 70s rock 'n roll. As a host he is friendly, welcoming and delicate.
