Remote riverfront home inside the boundaries of the New River Gorge National River. Located only 2 miles from the Sandstone Falls boardwalk.
The rustic house is family friendly- 5 bedrooms with 2 bunks and a full kitchen. Our private river lot has a fire pit, picnic table, charcoal grill, and great fishing.
There are several nearby trails and world class rafting is just an hour away.
NOTE: DOH roadwork is causing delay on River Rd from M-S. The price is discounted until it is completed.
On the New River near charming Hinton! The house is spacious and very private with a huge front porch offering exceptional river views.
There is a large master suite upstairs and four smaller bedrooms downstairs, making it ideal for large/multiple families or groups. The layout is also convenient for couples who do not need the extra space.
The master suite has a king bed and a futon in the on-suite that folds out to a comfortable twin size bed. Three of the downstairs bedrooms are located together in a hallway off the foyer- the blue room with twin over twin bunks, the purple room with a twin over full bunk, and the pink room with twin and doll furniture in the closet (bunk bed, crib, and high chair).
The downstairs orange bedroom is separate from the other three and has a queen bed and crib with shelves. All beds have bedding including sheets comforters, pillows, and extra blankets.
There are also two Therm-A-There are enough sheets and blankets to use these for extra guests if needed, but no pillows.
The kitchen has all the necessities- a stove, fridge, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, basic cookware and dishes. We keep the basics stocked- coffee, tea, sugar, olive oil, salt/pepper, and condiments in the fridge.
There is also a laundry room with washer and dryer.
In addition to the sleeping spaces inside the home, there is ample space for camping by the river or in the yard right beside the house. Our kids have even set up their tents on the front porch for camping.
There is a basketball goal in the yard and plenty of flat space to play, there are horseshoes on the porch for your use. The river front lot is very large and private. There is an established fire pit, charcoal grill, and picnic table. Bring your camp chair or hammock!
There is no boat ramp into the river but the bank fishing is great and there are multiple public accesses within a couple of miles.
There is one large flat screen TV in the living room with Direct TV. Cellular service is poor except in front of the signal booster in the living room. There is no WiFi available in this area.
Climate control is not a problem- there is a newly installed gas heat and A/C system. There are also backup gas heaters in case the power goes out in the winter.
The house has undergone major renovations that are nearly complete. Some unfinished projects remain- the downstairs bathroom awaits remodeling, dining room chairs need reupholstered, trim is incomplete, etc. We are keeping the price low as we complete the upgrades.
This is a great property for anyone looking to escape to the river. Send me a message if you have any questions. We look forward to hosting you!
Guests have full access to all areas within the house including five bedrooms (one a master with on-suite and bathroom), living room, equipped kitchen, and lovely dining room with river views.
A building behind the house remains locked and off limits as it is where we store our personal items.
I have a lockbox on the door and will provide you with the updated code a couple of days before your arrival. I appreciate your privacy and do not meet guests at the house unless you request that I do so.
I am available to assist you with all questions, concerns, or requests and will respond quickly to your call or text.
(Note: the Department of Highways is currently widening New River Road to a two lane road. There maybe be some delays on weekdays because of this construction. It will not affect Sunday or holiday travel.
There is also a 'road less traveled' option for reaching the property that avoids the construction- I-64 to the Pluto-Bragg exit then following Irish Mountain Road to the river. This is a gravel/dirt road and is impassible in snowy conditions. If you would like directions to the house via Irish Mountain let me know!)
-No shoes or food in carpeted areas (only the bedrooms)
-This is a great place for gathering with friends but is not for loud parties.
-No 'bonfires'- campfires only in the fire pit. Do not throw trash in the fire pit to burn- only wood!
-Do not bring the grill onto the porch or use directly under the trees.
-No smoking in the house. If you smoke outside don't flip your butts in the yard.
-Well-behaved pets are welcome, but if you are bringing your pets let me know when booking.
While we no longer live here full time, this is our family home. Please don't adopt the 'just a rental' mentality- respect it as you would your own.
My husband and I are both West Virginia natives and are passionate about our states history, culture and recreational opportunities. If you have any local knowledge questions- how to get around, where to eat, what to do- just ask and we will do our best to give you the inside scoop!
