"Le Montaigne" is a restored 16th Century three storey village house, which sits in the picturesque village of Sainte-Alvere, Perigord Noir, Dordogne Region, which is well known for its scenery and winter truffle market. There is a park immediately opposite our house of which the bedroom and terrace face, making a fabulous view.
The family room at "Le Montaigne", has 2 singles and a kingsize which can be used as 4 singles (although this is a family room, regrettably it is not suitable for very young children, due to the fact that the window is very low and a small child could climb out. Although the window itself would be quite hard for a small child to open, we have put additional locks at the top of the window, but our main concern is that if the window was left open and the child was left unattended).
Also we do not have cot or high chair facilities.
The room has an ensuite shower room and comes with a hairdryer, tea & coffee making facilities, Wi-Fi and a Continental Breakfast, which can be served either in the dining room or on the terrace.
A fold up bed can be supplied for an additional 15 Euros per night.
Jane and Tony would like to invite you to discover Sainte-Alvere, Perigord, Dordogne, a very tranquil and picturesque village. A village that was once dominated by a huge fortress, of which was destroyed during the revolution.
All that remains today of the castle are 3 towers, the postern gate, the battlements and a dovecote. The village streets are still dotted with evidence of long disappeared rural ways, the wash house, the "tramalh" an Occitan name for the structure used for harnessing and feeding horses and cattle, a well and a spring.
In July/August, there are many events in the village, such as antique markets and evening markets selling local produce with live music.
There are many places to walk or cycle, 5 hiking trails leave Sainte-Alvere and lead walkers through the region's natural and man-made heritage. The footpaths are betweeen 4km and 11km long, and perfect for one-day walks through hamlets, past old farms, through woods and agricultural land.
The Dordogne and Vezere Rivers are beautiful, so as well as doing a bit of sunbathing you can hire kayaks or canoes from a neighbouring village.
The roads here are perfect for Motorbike guests, so if you need any advice on where to go, Tony would be only too happy to advise or indeed take you himself on a tour, using his much loved Motorbike on some well used routes he knows. We have maintenance tools available and a secured garage for the Motorbikes.
After a long day visiting the sights, you are most welcome to sit on the terrace, watching the world go by in the warm evening air. (At the moment we do not have a drinks licence, but you are very welcome to sit drinking your own drinks).
There is a car park just 20 metres away if the space outside of the house is unavailable.
"Le Montaigne" was purchased in 2016 with the interior having been fully refurbished ready for business in 2017, with the exterior changing in due course.
Should you wish to arrive earlier than the 4pm, please let us know and we will do our best to accomodate.
