Our home was built in 1780 and is just 2 miles outside Cardiff. This is our family home, and is perfect for all attractions which are all close to us, and also very easy to commute to and from, as we have a train stop outside (just 10 minutes to Cardiff City Centre/Cardiff Bay/Beaches and just 2 hours to London). You wont necessarily need a car..
Eastbrook Cottage is really well positioned for all the main tourist attractions in the area. The house is sat on a popular housing estate in Dinas Powys, but benefits from a large private enclosed garden.
The house has 3 bedrooms - one large with a king size bed, one with 2 single bunk beds, and one single. We can also sleep an additional two adults on the sofa bed downstairs, and one more adult on the lounge drop bed. We can also add in 2 additional children's beds at no extra cost, as the bedrooms will also allow for this...
There is one family bathroom upstairs and a double shower room with WC downstairs. Our main lounge opens onto our garden via french doors, and there is also an additional lounge to stretch out in.
We have internet, wifi, tv and an Xbox 360 for use, as well as an extensive DVD and CD collection to enjoy.
The kitchen is spacious and fitted with all modern appliances, and there is also a utility room for white goods (dishwasher, washing machine, dryer etc) leading into the shower room/WC. We mainly use the new conservatory, which has a large dining table and looks out onto the garden. On chilly days the floor can be heated. The bi fold doors fold back in both directions, which is great on hot days.
The garden is great in the summer, the ice cream van calls round at about 4pm every day.
We must stress that the front of the house is situated on a road that gets very busy during certain times of the day, but we don't use the front door much as access is from the back.
Outside, you will hear the traffic/train horn in the daytime, and there may also be traffic noise heard from inside. Please bear this in mind before you book, especially if you are a very light sleeper, but this has its advantages being so near the M4 motorway and directly opposite the train.
You can be at the beach in 15 mins directly from the platform, or in the city centre in 10 mins.
Our house would be ideal for anyone. If you have children its a great space for you all to spread out in, if you don't, its also a comfy retreat to relax and commute from.
Culturally, Cardiff is superb for the arts, sport, and music, and there are lots of free festivals during the summer. I have listed a few pictures of attractions nearby, although I'm happy to send you links of specific areas that interest you. There is so much to do in the immediate area you will never be stuck, but there's always the option of exploring further. We recommend the Brecon Beacons, the Gower, and Tenby as must see destinations (1-2hrs away).
On your arrival you will find an information pack about Wales and Cardiff, as you don't want to miss the festivals and cultural and sporting events throughout the city. There's always something going on.
Please note that this is a busy family home, not a hotel, with a few bumps and knocks as its over 200 years old!. But we're confident you'll still love your stay.
Guests can access the entire house.
There will be someone available to talk to throughout your stay. We are located close by.
If you are flying into Cardiff Airport (25 mins away) we can collect you and your guests for a fee of £25 in total (each way if you need it).
For guests staying on longer visits, the cleaners arrive on a Monday.
- No shoes inside please. Cream carpets!
