This house is a wonderful place to stay to explore Puerto Viejo and surrounding areas. It is across the street from Playa Negra, which is a great beach for swimming and watching the sunset. We rented bikes from Orietta for a week which is a must-do; we didn't have a rental car, so bikes allowed us to get to town within minutes to get a bite to eat or go grocery shopping. Biking to Playa Cocles is easy, a bit more work to get to Playa Chiquita or Punta Uva, but worth it! The house itself is beautiful -- surrounded by lush trees and foliage, with the sounds of the jungle to help you sleep at night. We cooked almost all of our meals in the kitchen, which had 2 small burners, a medium-sized fridge, a coffee maker, blender, and basic utensils for cooking and eating (the kitchen doesn't have a toaster or microwave, but we weren't inconvenienced by this at all). We did buy a jug of drinking water from Orietta so that we had purified water to drink. The bedroom has a ceiling fan which is a lifesaver in the heat and humidity, and the bathroom and shower were lovely (but the shower had fairly low water pressure). The whole place had a very peaceful, tranquil vibe, and Orietta and her family were so friendly and helpful. It did help that I spoke Spanish, most of my interactions were with Orietta's daughter who speaks Spanish and a little English. She was lovely and gave us great recommendations on beaches to go visit. Overall, a fantastic place to stay, secluded from noise/crowds, but close to town and shopping/eating.
