This very clean and well furnished apartment is an excellent choice for the tourist wanting to visit Old Havana. Obisbo street, where the apartment is located, is listed on some web sites as one of the top 10 things to see and do in Cuba. This street is restaurant row from Bar Floridita, Hemingway’s hangout, to Plaza de Armas, near the old fortification and Plaza Viejo. In the other direction, you are only 3 blocks from the Capitol Building, the National Theater, and several first class hotels. The only need for a taxi is if you just want to tour in an antique car or visit Hemingway’s La Vigia, although we went there by the local metro bus. Yamina, the apartment manager, and her husband met us at the airport and drove us to the apartment for a fair price. We also arranged for them to take us back to the airport upon leaving. The apartment is on the third floor, so there are stairs that must be climbed; no elevator. The kitchen is very small, but well equipped and very serviceable. The small refrigerator was filled with water and drinks that were available for purchase at grocery store prices. The apartment was cleaned every other day. There is a safe in one of the closets that we used to store valuables. Toilet paper was provided in both bathrooms, but be aware that shortages of many common items are not unusual, so it is worth bringing some essentials. A potential downside of the location is that there is considerable street noise at all hours. However, the apartment has air conditioning and fans that we used to keep the closed apartment comfortable and drown out the street noise. We slept very well. The only negative part of our entire experience was that we booked within 2 weeks of our departure date and had difficultly contacting the apartment manager. Air B&B was no help at all for several days and our departure date was fast approaching. Eventually, we placed a phone call to the manager to confirm our reservation and then made arrangements to be met at the airport. After that, all was well, but most forms of communication between the US and Cuba are subject to interruptions. Texting did not work for us. The apartment had just been renovated and put on the rental market, so we were the first visitors. This may be the first and one of few reviews for some time, but rest assured that this is a great property that is run by honest, friendly and reliable people.
