There is so much to see and do, part of the fun is just planning your day. We highly recommend that you get a copy of “Hawaii The Big Island Revealed” by Andrew Doughty. We have found this book to be an invaluable source of information on the places to see, and how to get there. From beaches, to restaurants, historic sites and hikes, this book has all the details you need to plan your day.
Some of our favorite beaches are within 20 minutes drive north or south of our condo. Heading north, is 69 Beach (at mile marker 69), Hapuna Beach and Spencer Beach. Head south to Makalawena Beach in Kekaha Kai State Park, or Kua Bay (the drive in to this beach is amazing!) Get all the details in The Big Island Revealed, or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) searches provide plenty of information.
Morning walks around Waikoloa Beach Resort are a nice start to the day. Head over to Buddha Point by the Hilton, and down to A-Bay. It is a nice walk down the beach from A-Bay past the Lava Lava Beach Club. Watch for turtles on the beach, or see them swimming just off shore.
Check out (URL HIDDEN) for information on entertainment, dining, shopping and golf in the area. If you want to golf at the Beach Course or Kings Course, make sure you mention you are a guest at Waikoloa Beach Villas to get a discount. Our condo is located near the 3rd hole tee box of the Beach Course.
The best place for groceries and gas is Costco, just south of the airport. Locally, Island Gourmet (the ultimate ABC Store) at Queen’s Marketplace is a 5 minute walk and has everything you need. Note that Island Gourmet closes at 11:00 pm for those with a late arrival time. There is a KTA grocery store in Waikoloa Village, 7 miles up the hill, and a Foodland in Mauna Lani, 5 minutes north on Highway 19.
