Beautiful quirky British home in the rural idyllic location of Innerwick - 5 mins to the beach, 20 minutes to Gullane and North Berwick for golf, and 30 minutes drive or 18 minutes on the train to Edinburgh city. The best of all worlds. At any one time 72 people could be in Innerwick House and be either sitting or lying down. One super game of musical chairs awaits!
Innerwick House has a long heritage and has operated over the centuries as a bakery and a Bed & Breakfast. Now an extensive family home there is plenty of space to sprawl around, indulge in the sea views and enjoy the fresh Scottish air - At any one time 73 people could be in Innerwick House and be either sitting or lying down. That is a lot of furniture! Imaging musical chairs in this place! [18 chairs, 1 chez, 1 love seat, 2 long dining benches, 2 four seater sofas, 2 three seater sofas, 1 five seater sofa, 6 poofs/ottomans, 1 super king bed, 2 king beds, 2 double beds, 1 single bed, and 1 pop up bed, Oh and a cot!]
The house is an eclectic mixture of contemporary furnishings (see the kitchen designed by Kobod celebrating all things Scandi and plywood), Art, and comfortable bedding ready for a quality snooze (all mattresses are Hypnos or Simba, and duvets are goose or wool). There are two living rooms, both with a log fire and the large upstairs living room has decadent sea views. The accessible pantry for complimentary use is very extensive and especially suitable for vegans, plant based diets, gluten free and refined sugar free - for inspiration check out the array of cookbooks. And we are on hand before and during your stay and happy to help with arranging car rentals, food orders to be there in advance of your arrival and what there is to do in the surrounding areas of John Muir's beloved East Lothian and beyond in the city of Edinburgh. The house can comfortably sleep 12 guests based on all the beds, but a lot more if required and we can discuss where additional beds, floor mattresses etc can be set up (please discuss with us before making a booking for over 10 adult guests). At the moment there are four available bedrooms (one with a superking), 2 king, 2 doubles and a single. We also have an additional pop up single bed single beds and a travel cot if requested. The common spaces currently have 5 sofas, 4 chairs and 1 LOVE seat. There are two dining tables (one seats 6, the other seats up to 14) and 2 stokke chairs including a newborn baby set.
In terms of mod-cons, well, we like them. Available for your use include a Panasonic HD Ultra 60inch flatscreen TV, Qooker tap, VitaMix, MagiMix, bread machine, and ice cream maker. There are numerous Sonos subs throughout the house too that can be used individually per room, and grouped house wide. You will need the SONOS app to be able to use the subs.
Note we are "not your average horti-***-culturist" and the garden is basic (grass, space enough for 5 cars, herb garden, patio table, chopped trees). It is our dream goal to turn it into a fully functioning vegetable garden and plans are underway and photos will be added.
*More photos will be added soon including once painting has finished: living room with sprawling sea views, dining room, downstairs hall, bedroom 4, conservatory and play room, plus the beach that is less than a 5minute drive away door to sand.*
The garage will be kept locked and one room (our study and office) will be locked. There is an extra fridge in the utility room that we may keep items in whilst we are away depending on the length of your stay. One bedroom is currently out of use as it is being decorated. The remaining 4 bedrooms (2 ensuite, one with a shower and toilet and the other with a bath and a separate shower and toilet), family bathroom (bath and separate shower), kitchen, dining room, hall, playroom, utility room, downstairs snug, upstairs living room, conservatory, and garden are accessible.
We will be available for check-in, and are available to help with general queries via phone, text and email. We are approachable, kind and in love with our 'Kingdom' so allow us the pleasure of making your stay comfortable.
Note that currently there are parts of the house under renovation including 1 bedroom at the time of writing (17 March 2017). At any point of booking we will explicitly communicate an update and give you a guided virtual tour and photographic evidence if you would like it - we feel that the price is reflective of the house status but we are open to negotiating a discount if any rooms are not available and it means fewer rooms available for large bookings. The house is considerable but we would prefer bookings for 10 or more adults to be discussed with us. This is an old house of large proportions. Speaking of old - please remember to be gentle to some features. The upstairs family bathroom should be flushed only once in a five minute period (kind of standard, but worth stating).
- Respect for neighbours but noise is largely contained in the property. - Shoes off is appreciated and there is space to rest your wellies and golfing shoes or beach flip flops. - Details of pets required. - Strictly no smoking in doors. - Commitment to care for our home including art essential. - No parties unless discussed and disclosed ahead of time so that we can give guidance on suitability. Thank you.
If I could host a dream dinner party, I would invite my husband Euan, a few good friends, Eddie Izzard, Dr Niles Crane from Frasier, Miles Davis, Rodger Federer, Obama and Marie-Currie and Blondie. I think that would be fun, and I'm an introvert! My passions at the moment are the full time parenting of our two toddler daughters, reading a few pages of a Neil Gaiman or similar style book when I can, having a nip of a single malt, and getting an early night. My life aim is to 'want less - get more'. My 2017 ambition is to begin a vegetable garden and I can get super geeky about the variation of grains and vegetables in the world! Maybe sounds better discussed over that said whisky. Oh and I love to bake. My daughters love that about me too (well, the bowl licking of healthyish whole grain superfood puddings and desserts). Thanks for reading and hope all is well your side.
