This condo is in an amazing area of D.C. - within walking distance of a bunch of great restaurants, bars, dance locations, etc. It seemed that any direction we walked, there was something to do. The owners themselves were very responsive, getting back to us within a few hours of any questions/issues we had.
Unfortunately, the place had a bit of a cockroach problem. The first night we arrived, there were dead cockroaches. We let the owners know, and they responded quickly and came by to do a thorough cleaning of the place. They offered a 20% refund. This was totally reasonable, and they were nice about it. The next day, we arrived home to a couple more dead cockroaches, cleaned them up, no big deal. My friends and I were sure not to put any of our belongings on the floor to keep them from getting invaded. Overall, it was an inconvenience but it wasn't *that bad*.
The cockroach situation got worse, though. Apparently other areas of the building had been sprayed prior to our arrival. So, naturally, cockroaches fled to this place because it hadn't been sprayed yet. The exterminator was scheduled to spray the condo after we left. We don't blame Fisher for the situation at large, but ideally we would've been told prior to arriving about the extermination. As previous residents of the deep South, we know what happens when buildings, but not particular rooms, get sprayed and likely would've had enough time to find another place.
When we arrived home after a long day on Sunday, there were 5-10 *live* cockroaches running around the bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. We let Fisher know immediately - they were apologetic, but unwilling to budge past the initial 20% refund because we had "stayed the whole time" -- we were essentially told that we should've left on day 1 if we wanted a full refund and, since we didn't, there wasn't anything more that could've been done. In retrospect, we wish we had left but were of course worried about finding a place last-minute and we were in town for an academic conference.
We contacted Airbnb, who informed us that they would provide a 50% refund, which we believed was reasonable. Fisher agreed to the 50%, so that's great.
Without cockroaches, this condo would've been 100% awesome given the location and comfort otherwise. Unfortunately for us, we stayed at the wrong time. Hopefully the cockroach situation is no longer a problem - in which case, definitely stay here. But if it isn't, we would suggest against it (unless you're okay with some bugs).
