Welcome to the coziest room in our cozy house! We live in Boonsboro, a gem of a small town in Western Maryland, close to spectacular hiking, great shopping, and pivotal historic sites. The house is home to our family of four (with two children, ages three and five), but your bedroom has its own full bath adjacent. Freshly painted in cozy colors and appointed with a microwave, hot pot, and coffee maker, the room is a restful stop for a solo traveler.
The bedroom is right off the front hall of the house and comes with its own adjacent full bath, so you can come and go with ease. We keep it stocked with maps and brochures of local attractions, and with coffee, tea, and other ready breakfast items.
We are happy to share our living room and kitchen, front and back porches, and our backyard, including the garden and chiminea/fire pit. We will give you space in the refrigerator, should you need some. There is a back shed as well with space to store bikes/kayaks/etc. Upstairs in the house are our bedrooms and the washer and dryer. Though we're willing to do a load of laundry for you, we'd prefer you not go upstairs.
We are happy to leave you to your own devices, or we're also happy to socialize. Geoff is a history geek by nature and a Park Ranger by profession, and can offer recommendations about local attractions and insights into local terrain and history.
We are a family of four enjoying life in our little town in the mountains! Geoff is a history geek by nature and park ranger by profession. Barb is a language and gardening enthusiast, currently a stay-at-home mom. The kids, Teresa and Malcolm (aged five and three), are curious, vivacious, and of course very very cute.
Both Geoff and Barb have traveled and lived overseas; Geoff in Poland and Scotland, Barb in the islands of Micronesia and Turkey. We moved in fall of 2015 from the suburbs of Washington DC, seeking a life less dependent on money in a smaller and closer community, surrounded by natural beauty and historical richness. And we found a good spot for all of that in Boonsboro, Maryland!
As hosts, we can leave you to your own devices if you like, or we're also happy to chat over a beverage and a slice of Barb's homemade bread -- or an entire meal. We are in the process of planning and planting an edible garden in the permaculture style -- so in five years, we'll have pears and grapes and elderberries and a beautiful oasis of perennial flowers-- just now, we have lots of greens and veggies. Homegrown potatoes really do taste better!
Geoff, a former reenactor, loves to take guests to explore local historic sites and places of interest, like Harper's Ferry -- the site of John Brown's raid; Civil War battlefields -- Antietam was fought just down the road, and the wounded were carted up the road in front of our house. The C & O Canal -- one of the most popular and scenic bike trails in the East... and Geoff works there! Oh, and the Washington Monument. Didn't know it was built here first, did you?
At our house, you can expect a clean room with its own hot-water kettle, microwave, brochures and maps about local attractions, and your own full bathroom. Though you may hear some pitter-pattering of little feet, your room is set off from the rest of the house, as the only room on the first floor, nearest the front door.
