My place is good for couples and solo adventurers. Overlooking the beautiful Blueskin Bay and only a few minutes from Doctors Point beach. A delightful public walkway around part of the bay with the entrance right out front. Orokonui Ecosanctuary is up the hill, Waitati township a few mins down the road and cultural Dunedin city only 20 mins drive away. I have a beautiful little tabby cat and a chicken in the garden. Spray free veges, fruit trees and a native tree area in the back yard.
This is a great space to relax and enjoy the views and amazing birdlife. The dawn and dusk chorus is stunning and birds can usually be heard throughout the day. The beach is minutes down the road and here you are able to wander all the way to Purukanui inlet at low tide, through caves and over old Maori Pa site ground. Small blue penguins often come up onto the coastal slopes of the beach area to nest at the end of the day when all is quiet. If you're into surfing there are plenty of places along this coastline for it, and some great snorkelling sites too. A delightful little walk around a part of our Blueskin Bay coast begins just down the road and loops around coming out by the railway crossing, where you only need to head down the hill back to the house.
You'll have access to the property: Open plan living/kitchen space, large deck, your bedroom, bathroom and laundry. The backyard has an edible garden and native bush area at the back. Half of the deck is enclosed and half open, overlooking the beautiful Blueskin Bay.
If you like to socialise that would be great. If you prefer to be alone, I am happy with that too and will respect your space and/or need for quitude. This is a beautiful, tranquil place to chill out, relax, meditate etc.
My place is a small home, only 65m2 in total but with everything you need for a good stay!
Quiet time after 10pm on week nights please.
I'm a primary school teacher in a small rural school north of Dunedin. I love tramping and am passionate about environmental, humanitarian and ethical issues. Last year I built an extra 34m2 onto my existing small 30m2 room, with a gorgeous deck off the front overlooking Blueskin Bay. I wanted to keep it small but functional and with character. Building with non-toxic materials was important to me so I used mostly macrocarpa wood, with natural non-toxic oils and bio-paint. The concrete floor is sealed with natural Tung oil. I also drive a home-built electric car. I love living in my unique space, close to the beach and a short drive to the city. It feels as though I'm always on holiday when I'm at home!
