Our reason for choosing Mary's place had mostly to do with location, as we were visiting for a week and needed to go back and forth to family in Dayton, a wedding in Miamisburg, and friends in Yellow Springs. As it happened, the annual Dayton Air Show was going on that week, which we didn't know. Still, Mary's rooms were available (one son was flying in from NC and stayed, so we needed a second bedroom), and the price was good, and the location was convenient, even if it mean a bit longer drive some days.
While all that went into the decision, we found that in addition she runs a good and welcoming facility. Everything was clean. All supplies, towels, soaps, teas and coffees, paper towels, toilet paper-- everything you need, basically, was stocked in supply. Security was good, the AC worked on some very hot days, the place was quiet, and the diner, Slim's, was a good place to eat. Very busy, though, so get there early. And make sure you tip the servers well, because they really have to hustle.
Highly recommended, whether because you need a convenient base camp, if you're a bicyclist traveling the countryside, or just want to settle into the slower pace of a small town in rural Ohio. It's basic, but in a good way, too. Just come and relax.
