All for you! This cute, clean, comfortable little house with a large, fenced yard is about a mile from the University of Oregon. The perfect quiet place to come home to, when you're ready to rest from enjoying the wonders of Eugene, Oregon, or passing through...
The Little Red House has pretty low ceilings, except for the main/living room, which has a lovely wooden cathedral-like ceiling with skylights above. The bedrooms are small but comfortable (if you don't need a second bedroom, it may be locked). We want you to know that the size of the beds is technically "Full" which is a little smaller than "Queen" (the closest option to choose on Airbnb).
The living room has a comfy red leather chair for one, a love seat for stretching out a bit more, and a leatherish couch/futon, a footstool so you can put your feet up, and an adjustable small table in case you'd like to watch something on your laptop. The Internet is great.
There are several table options: a small, high table-and-chair near the picture window that looks out on the pretty yard, a long 4-6 person table in the living room, and a round 4-6 person table in the kitchen (great for playing games, and you know there are playing cards waiting for you). And, yes, there is a Casio keyboard in the living room that you're welcome to use!
The kitchen is stocked with dishes, cookware, etc., and with appliances: coffee maker, microwave, toaster-oven. There is a real (old) stove/oven and great (new) full-size refrigerator.
Throughout the house, there is excellent lighting, along with twinkly lights and nightlights. What can we say? Mary's into LIGHT.
Your parking space is in the alley, with the gate and pathway to the Little Red House marked by solar lights. A covered porch extends along the side of house, with a view of the yard (and a little bit of I-5).
A key will be provided, and the entire house -- living room with loft & futon, bedrooms (two if you need them; one if you don't), kitchen, and bathroom -- porch and large, fenced yard -- will be all yours.
When you book, we'll describe how to locate the little alley that leads to the Little Red House. It has a bit of a pot-hole problem, but is fine if you take it slow. If you need space for more than two cars, we'll need to discuss...
The Little Red House is in the back portion of our own home/property, so we're there if you need us, but generally we will just give you the info you need to get in and make yourself at home, all by yourself/ves. ;)
• No smoking, in or out, please.
• Water is shared, so please keep showers to 10 minutes or less, and take care.
• If you intend to bring your dog, we will need to discuss it in advance. The yard is fabulous, but I'll expect no traces of dogness left behind -- in or out. Dogs on furniture is unacceptable; as is a dog left alone on the property, for any amount of time. (We have a kennel that you can borrow if necessary, with advance notice.)
• There is no air conditioner, but the three cooling fans are effective.
• For heat, each room has a cadet heater. There's a great woodstove but we'll need to discuss before you attempt to use it.
• No smoking, in or out.
• No unattended dogs or children.
• Clean up after your pet.
• Lock your car; don't leave valuables in it.
• Quiet time after 10pm.
Mary moved to Eugene in 1993 with her then-husband and four kids -- then 2, 4, 6, and 8. We rented this same property, then bought it, and fixed up the back house to be a place where the kids could live semi-independently. They've all moved on (3 in PDX, 1 in SF) and the place has had some lovely renters in the past 10 or so years. For the past 16 years, Mary -- an east coast native, musician, music therapist -- has been serving as the computer teacher at South Eugene High School.
Jim grew up all over the place (the Army, dontchaknow) and also raised 4 kids, mostly in Alaska and Portland, Oregon, but spent the last 10 years in Charlotte, NC. He lives here now, and is a retired marine biologist.
