"The Schoolhouse" is your VT lake getaway!
Private and close to activities: sandy Dunes beach (1 mi), golf (1mi), two vineyards (23 mi), Montreal (~1hr), beautiful biking roads, shared dock, sunset views over the lake, and back yard abuts 20 acres of bird-filled conservation meadows.
Good for couples, bikers/boaters, families w/ up to 1 child; the sunroom couch can be another bed; 1 bathroom with shower; cozy and bright.
Charcoal grill, kitchen, and Adirondack chairs, WiFi, stereo, A/C!
This cozy renovated house is a former one-room schoolhouse that now has separated rooms for kitchen/dining and bed/sitting, plus a fully enclosed sunporch and wrap around deck. It's outfitted with hardwood shaker furniture handmade by NA Durso Vermont Furniture Makers (Jesse's dad!) and all the utensils to cook and grill (which we love to do when we're there.)
You can use everything at the house - it's a private home that's all yours (except for the shed, which is mostly storage and tools.) The backyard from tall grass to the birch tree is all exclusive to our property and there are shared picnic benches over on the main green next to the other cottages.
The dock across the street is shared with the cottages as part of the home owners association and is yours to use as well!
We live in Boston and have neighbors on both sides in Alburgh who are there to help (one of whom cleans and transitions the place between guests), plus a homeowners association head who takes care of all the water and exterior maintenance.
- Park on right side of driveway next to the deck, or behind the pine trees on the grass.
- Don't open the shed.
- Turn off A/C when not home (cools down fast when you need it).
- The plastic chairs are susceptible to wind of the lake, always stack them tucked in the corner of the deck overnight or if you're away all day.
I am a non-profit and education field professional currently working as advisor to community service programs at Harvard College, active lifestyle includes biking, climbing, hiking, skiing, and more. I love cooking and eating good food, much thanks to my wife, Annie, who is amazing in the kitchen. We cook while listening to music most nights - from soul to hip hop to indie to house - if we don't get home too late from work. Annie works for Boston Public Schools as an 8th grade counselor and she loves reading, climbing, biking, drawing, walking/running and practicing yoga. We are both involved in social justice activities outside of work, mostly around education and youth issues.
We love to travel and do so as often as our schedule and budget allow, recently to Oregon, Colorado, Montreal, and Guatemala. We plan to stay busy with fun activities when home or away. We're focused on quality time with friends almost every weekend, and visit family in Chicago, NY and VT whenever we get the chance. We are always open to new adventures, especially active, outdoors and abroad. My dream is to drive down the west coast of Central and South America, as well as a cross country US trip to see baseball games from coast to coast. Annie hopes to bring me back to South Africa, where she spent time studying the post-apartheid education system, and where we hope to see Morocco, Tanzania and Congo. I will someday get to my family birthplace in Italy!
We hope to meet you in our travels and yours!
