We had such a fantastic time here! The cabin was cosy, comfy and warm, and had everything we needed. Easy drive to other little towns and attractions, and the cafe across the road is great. This is a beautiful part of the world, thanks for a great stay! (Two couples in early 20s from Melbourne, VIC).
The cabin is a beautiful, family friendly nest with a deep, delightful spa-bath (those jets are perfect after a long days hike!) and the location is ideal to explore Cradle Mtn and surrounds. There's plenty of curious wildlife pottering about the property, which was great for kids and its only a 2 min stroll to the Cradle Forest Inn which has a great cosy restaurant and bar. Shepard is a wonderful host, very friendly and forthcoming and he went above and beyond the call to make our stay as smooth and easy as possible. We would recommend this cabin to families, couples, travellers, whomever and we can't wait to visit again!
We found exactly what we were looking for on our trip to Cradle Mountain. Shepherds place was not far from the national park entry (approx 20-30 mins drive), located in a quiet area, and yet just off the main road, and 3 minutes walk to the local pub (the Cradle Lodge Inn) which serves food 7am-8pm and has a good selection of wood fired pizzas and other hearty meals on offer (plus you can buy milk/bread there too). We were a group of three, so perfect for the 1 x main room with double bed and the second bedroom with 2 x single beds. All were very comfy, with new, warm bedding. Big bathroom with separate toilet was handy, and the place has a huge open kitchen/diner and a wood burner for cosy evenings by the fire. The kitchen was well equipped for people that want to cook.
Okay firstly, this is a great location if you are in the Cradle Mountain region. Great restaurant at the end of the drive-way and 10 minute drive from the park entrance. The problem is that it's not a "cosy cottage", it's a basic lodge - it's in need of a fair bit of upgrade. This is noted in the house manual upon arrival but absent from the house description on the site. Annoyingly it's also adjoined to three other dwellings - all of which were leased out when we were there, making it not particularly private or quiet. Again, would be fine if declared up front I feel and if the price reflected this. A good basic place to stay close to Cradle Mountain but not much else.
