We requested a last minute change with our reservation. Requesting to stay in the room with A/C which David gladly obliged. Room was basic, a bed with full bath. There was a hammock just outside of the room but we didn't get to use it. David was very nice and gave awesome recommendation around town. We got to hang out with him on our last night in Quepos at a bar where his buddies were performing. He also offered for us to stay an extra night free of charge, which was very nice. Highly recommended.
The Good and The Bad - The Good: The location is wonderful, just outside of Quepos near great restaurants and beaches. The wildlife is right outside your room (macaws and monkeys). David's pool is excellent. The views from the balcony are the best. David was flexible in letting us move our dates when our plans changed. He showed us wildlife and gave us some of the best dining recommendations. The place feels very safe and is in a gated community. The hill is steep but we were able to drive up and park at the guest house. The Bad: AC is advertised which we filtered our search on but there is none. There are two ceiling fans. The first night the temperature was ok, the second night it was uncomfortable. Other reviews have mentioned a mini fridge would be nice, we used a cooler and ice. This may be a unique experience but I think it is worth mentioning... We had great communication with David leading up to our stay. However, during check in and check out he was very rude to us, including yelling at me and swearing. We got lost and the directions were poor as other reviews have mentioned. I think this really is just a one off incident but I would hope David would update his directions instead of getting angry at the travelers that have trouble finding his place. I offered to provide directions based on my experience and he refused. Other than this he was extremely friendly and helpful, maybe just a bad day.
Our stay here was overall okay. David was very nice, but compared to our other hosts he was not as helpful with planning things. He recommended good restaurants but mostly night life, which is not really our thing. The room was fine for what it is, it's just a bed and a bathroom. It does get a little hot, and you can almost never get a wifi signal from the room, you have to go up by the pool which was a little frustrating. I wish there was even just a mini fridge in the room, so we could bring home leftovers from restaurants or keep our water cold since it's so hot there. The pool was very nice and it's in a nice location.
My sister and I had a wonderful stay here. The room itself has fans which we kept on for most of our stay. David was a wonderful host and gave us great recommendations for places to eat and drink at in Manuel Antonio. He also helped us out quite a bit in various situations which we're extremely grateful for. The house is located inside a gated community so it's quiet and secure. You also have access to a pool which we took advantage of- you can easily spot many animals hanging around in the trees. The only somewhat of a downside was the hill you have to walk up in order to get to the house, which we had to do a few times. But if you don't feel like walking you can easily just take a taxi. Otherwise our experience here was wonderful and David being our host just made it even better.
