Once you have permission to have your dog with you, it is expected that a few simple rules of courtesy are followed:
• All pets must be approved in writing prior to the stay
• Any mess, including outdoors, must be wrapped and placed in outside bins
• Pet bedding must be supplied by guest
• Please restrict your pet to the hard floor areas and do not allow it onto furniture or into bedrooms
• You agree to pay for any damage, or extra cleaning required resulting from the pet having stayed. The amount will be taken from the bond.
There is a causeway crossing to access the property and in heavy rain this can become unpassable. There is a footbridge to use in these circumstances which will be explained in more detail if necessary.
A SANCTUARY FOR WILDLIFE
Half pasture & half bush. From the extensive native plantings surrounding the house to the rising slopes of regenerated forest, enjoy a sea of green.
Explore the creek bank, hidden waterfalls or fern forests or sit back on one of the decks and let nature come to you.
It is possible to spot a myriad of bird life, wallabies, echidnas, wombats, glowworms and platypus if you sit quietly and know where to look.
In the pastures, we breed Scottish Highlander cattle renowned for their long shaggy coats while in the gardens we provide fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and eggs from our friendly chickens.
HEATING & COOLING
In winter choose from lighting one or both of the wood fires or using the gas and/or electric heaters.
With a floating concrete floor, large eaves, opening verandah roof and opposing windows, the house is environmentally designed to remain cool during all but the most extreme of summer days without the need for air-conditioning. There are fans in the bedrooms and dining area if needed.
The two King beds can be converted to four singles upon request.
The wall between the two downstairs bedrooms can be opened up to create one large suite.
Bedroom 1 has a wall mounted TV.
Bedroom 4 has a DVD player.
Children are welcome on the property and there is a large garden and lawn to play in – BUT no responsibility can be taken for children staying at or visiting the property. Please supervise carefully taking into consideration the unfenced dam and creek, stairs, verandas, balconies, the footbridge, the jetty, snakes, spiders & cleaning chemicals.
If your child requires specialised items (e.g., cots or highchairs) please bring these with you.
Platypus Bend is located between Kangaroo Valley & Berry so there is plenty to see and do.
It's also a great location for exploring the beaches of the South Coast.
COUNTRY LIVING - EXTREME WEATHER
Mentioned earlier, the shallow causeway across the creek can become impassable for vehicles during high rainfall. Next to the causeway there is a quality engineered footbridge for use in these rare circumstances.
There is a flood level gauge on both sides of the causeway. Under no circumstances should you drive across if the water level is above 25cm (0.25m).
As the water flows over the causeway it is much stronger than in deeper parts of the river. If a vehicle is broadsided, it can be easily swept off. If in doubt, always leave your vehicle and walk across the footbridge.
If the water level warrants it, the property manager will arrange to meet you when you arrive to walk you across the footbridge and onto the house (approx 150m). The bridge, driveway and gardens are well lit.
Hopefully not but for the duration of your stay you may need to walk from the house and across the footbridge to access your car.
The upside of this is that with the rain often come beautiful low clouds that hang below the escarpments, and waterfalls that run off them, surrounding the property which make for an amazing spectacle!
