July to August is Winter Wild Festival in Apollo Bay, a great time to stay here! This is my home, not a show house and it is rural farmland. The Otways and the Ocean with beaches & surf surround this farmland and home. Koalas, Wallabies, abundant bird life and small farm animals to feed and enjoy. With a clean, comfortable bed and shared facilities you can go exploring, or sit watching the animals antics or stroll around the farm. Remember it is almost 18kms to town so be prepared.
Winter is here and there are a lot less insects but being in the country surrounded by farmland, I still have some. This is a great place to make your 'base camp' while you enjoy Winter Wild in Apollo Bay!
My space is special because it is relaxed and relaxing. You can feed chickens and parrots, or just sit in the garden and watch the birds. There are also craft supplies to be creative at a small fee and some instruments if you wish to make music. Being in the Otways there are many beautiful places to walk, explore and enjoy. Being rural we also constantly battle insects so be warned. The house has plenty of space inside and outside, relax in the sun or take a walk down to the wee creek and have a picnic lunch, or a bush walk to one of the local waterfalls, or just sit in the garden and relax and watch the wildlife. You might see a koala or even an echidna. You can have a barbeque on the deck or even a campfire (restrictions permitting) and toast marshmallows. In winter enjoy the cosy wood fire.
As a guest in my home you will have 24 hour access to the kitchen where you may prepare your own meals, make tea, coffee, smoothies or juice drinks. Breakfast cereals including oatmeal will be available for you to serve yourself, all other food is to be provided by you. A small bar fridge can store your milk etc. A family dining table and chairs are in the dining area of the kitchen with lovely views out to the garden.
The bathroom and separate toilet are shared so we will respect each other's need for privacy and use of these facilities and keep them clean.
The lounge room has a 2 seater couch and an armchair to relax and watch television with a wood burning fire, there is another sitting room where one can listen to music or play an instrument or just chat, with 2 armchairs and a gas heater.
Area 1 is the computer room/library containing a very comfortable single bed. Area 2 is the Art/Craft-Community area which is between the garage and main part of the house, it also has a very comfortable single bed, and space for 1-2 mattresses on the carpeted floor.
You can also have access to the Art/Craft room (byo materials or a small fee to cover costs) and a large library of books to read. In this area is a 3 seater couch and a television for dvds, a great area for the children if you want adult time in the lounge room. There is an area for board games with floor cushions and an armchair, and a computer/study desk. This area also is used for HelpX guests. It has an urn and drinks making area with the bar fridge and a toaster oven.
There is another single bed used as a settee/day bed by the back door leading to the deck. A lovely place to lounge and read an hour or two away, or just watch the cheeky King Parrots and Sulphur-crested Cockatoos.
The laundry houses an automatic washing machine, a clothes dryer, a laundry trough and a deep freezer as well as an iron and ironing board which you may use!
On the deck is a gas barbeque, a table and 6 chairs and potted plants. There are numerous tables and chairs scattered around the garden for enjoying the outdoors in comfort, the garden is securely fenced.Guests are welcome to use the kitchen and laundry, I just ask that you be conservative in the use of water! You are welcome to watch television, do art or craft work or find a quiet space to read or whatever, sit in a recliner chair and snooze. BBQ and chairs are on the deck and the garden is securely fenced.
I greet my guests upon arrival and show them to their bed if I am home or leave instructions/ directions if not, then leave them free to choose when and if they join me if I am available. I am happy to interact or to leave you alone, it is your holiday to enjoy as you wish. However, as I have some health issues I may need to remove myself from socialising at times and just go to rest.
If you want to bush walk wear suitable footwear. There are snakes in the area.
I am working toward this property being as environmentally conscious and caring as it can be in this day and age and within it's setting. Therefore all rubbish is sorted into categories to be disposed of appropriately.
As we have only tanked rain water, taps must not be left running, conservation of water is imperative!
This is a farming district, gates must be left as you find them, and dogs must be walked on a leash at all times. And definitely do not trespass on other people's land, they get really angry if you do. Damages done to property or livestock is your responsibility and you will be liable. Be considerate and everyone will have a good time.
As this is my home I expect guests to be respectful of my privacy and possessions and especially of my animals. Be respectful of any other guests here. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen at any time but no pig or shellfish products brought in. Tea, coffee making is available and complementary. As we have only tanked rain water, no mains water, only one shower/bath per person per day is allowed and plug the sink & basin, do not keep taps running. Please keep your space tidy as it is a shared area and keep all valuables in a safe place and out of sight, I do my best to have honest people here and take no responsibility for your property. Smoking must be done outside, never in the house and butts disposed of properly in the rubbish not dropped on the ground!
If you see something needs to be done or fixed please come tell me so that I can attend to it.
No illegal drugs or drunken behaviour will be tolerated nor any type of abuse! You will be told to leave immediately if this occurs!
Pets are allowed but they must be house trained and always on a leash! This is a farming district and livestock is valuable, you will be liable for any damage done by your pet!
I am married, have two adult children, live with a cat who believes she is the boss, live in country Victoria above the Great Ocean Road and work a casual job cleaning. I host people through HelpX and have had the pleasure and blessing of meeting some very interesting young folk as well as receive help I need for living here in exchange for room and board. I am an avid reader, love singing (in 2 choirs and 1 singing group) and good music, dabble in painting. I am blessed with a great best friend of more than 40 years and have many other friends and acquaintances.
I have several health issues which cause me to get tired easily and slow me down, but mostly I keep going and rest when I need to.
I love the beach, the bush and waterfalls. The back of Lorne, away from the tourists is a divine place to be as is my home in Wongarra.
At the moment my favourite movie is Avatar.
I am not very good on the computer and have no idea about bluetooth or but want to learn about these technologies. Give me a pen and paper any day, I love writing, gemstones and crystals, the esoteric and life. I love people of all types and ages and sharing stories and learning. Also I love animals and our natural world, have a pig and bantum x rooster and hens who have hatched chicks. I am hoping to soon have a lamb or two. I believe we all come from the One (place/being) and will all return to that One when our time here is complete. We are all One. We all are here for a purpose. I believe everything we do stems from love or fear and perfect love leaves no room for fear.
Over the years I have done a lot of bush walking and camping and still love to sleep in my tent.
