The feeling my son and I had as soon as we met Julie was that we'd made a friend. She greeted us exceptionally warmly and immediately offered us a cup of tea and home-made cake before showing us our rooms and the rest of the house, which is full of art and beautiful things. I had mentioned beforehand that we're interested in wildlife and Julie was kind enough to show us the penguins of Oamaru from a real insiders perspective. We had planned to go out to eat, but ended up having a friendly impromptu dinner with Julie after returning late from penguin viewing. Our bedrooms were very comfortable and well furnished. We were also treated to breakfast with the freshest possible eggs from Julie's own hens together with bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast. We were sad to say goodbye to Julie and hope to keep in touch.
Julie's place is a great central location in Oamaru and you can get to the shops with a short walk. Hospitality is excellent and the place was very comfortable and cooked breakfast was provided If you want to know about the Penguins, for which Oamaru is famous, Julie is the (URL HIDDEN) she also works at the Penguin Colony. A visit to see 'Bob' the sheep, up the road, should also be on the cards while he is still there and it is a fascinating story! So, if you want to get the best Oamaru experience, this is it!
Julie is a really nice person. She is very helpful and no doubt, she does airbnb to meet and help people and not to make money. She helped with great advices and wanted to show us around her town, but unfortunately we didn't have a lot of time for that. And thank you for breakfast and for making us feel welcome.
