La Melagrana is right in the middles of the historical centre of Modica. The main square, Piazza Matteotti, is few meters away.
Main churches, local restaurants and chocolate factories are all at walking distance.
You will enjoy staying at La Melagrana non only for its location, but also for the ambiance of the neighbourhood.
At La Melagrana, you will be able to live in an authentic Modican mansion, with ancient pieces of furniture and traditional house decorations.
The name Melagrana (pomegranate) comes from the famous passage of Gesualdo Bufalino's book "Argo il cieco":
"One summer I was Young and happy, in ’Fifty-One. Neither before nor after: just that summer. It may have been by grace and favour of the place I lived, a town like a pomegranate split in two, close to the sea yet pastoral, the one half clinging to a cliff-face, the other bespattered at his foot, with innumerable flights of steps like peacemakers between the two and clouds in the sky, between one bell-tower and the next…"
In Sicily, as in many other places, the pomegranate is symbol of abundance, wealth and fertility.
On top of two bedroooms, kitchen, laundry room, dining room, bathroom and living room, "La Melagrana" has in inner court in which you can freely have breakfast or simply sit outside.
Even though the kitchen of "La Melagrana" is equipped with all modern facilities (large fridge with freezer, hob, etc.), its original brickwork structure, typical of Modica, has been preserved.
Thus you will be able to relive the traditional kitchen with the original large pots and the oven inside the wall.
