Our lovely 4 bedroomed house, with large courtyard and rooftop terrace, has been meticulously and lovingly restored, mixing French charm with modern essentials - like renovated bathrooms and kitchen - and comfy beds! The house, as you'll see from the photos is spacious, light and airy - and very well equipped. Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees, amongst a striking landscape of vineyards and rolling hills, it's the perfect location to explore this beautiful and historic part of SW France.
The first comments our guests make about the house is how spacious and airy it feels. Reviews have said it's the 'best equipped' house they've ever stayed in and we work hard to provide everything you'll need for a comfortable stay. The large lounge has a TV, DVD player and wood burning stove and leads into a large eat-in kitchen with oak beams and old world charm. **Please note comments about TV and wifi below. The courtyard - (which used to be the house!) leads off the kitchen - in Summer these french windows just stay open... and dining in the courtyard - with candles aglow in the walls, makes for a memorable night. Leading through from the kitchen is a large dining room - and dining table seating 8 comfortably. From the dining room, you'll access a newly renovated bathroom with a walk in shower - and large utility room. Up a beautifully restored winding wooden staircase next to the kitchen and on the first floor are the three main bedrooms, a second bathroom (with bath this time) and a separate toilet. Continue up the staircase and you'll coming to an open attic space with double bed, which leads through to a bright well-stocked reading room. From here, large french windows lead onto the roof terrace with wonderful views over the hills.
Guests will be able to use the whole house and make use of all the amenities. There is no 'on site' parking, but there is parking immediately next to the house..
Myself and my family are based in England but we have Richard and Debbie on hand as your hosts, to welcome you to the house and see to all your needs. They run a number of holiday homes and we trust them to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
**WIFI.....We do have wifi at the house but at present, it can only be accessed from the kitchen or dining room. (We currently use the signal from the cafe right next to us - with permission from the owner). We've never had it put in, because when we visit, we like to get away from it! So if you require WIFI from bedrooms etc, our house is not for you... Please note that Patricia the cafe owner is very happy for people to sit with a coffee in the sun and spend the afternoon using the wifi.. she's used to it!
Patricia is French but also speaks very good English. She serves coffee, alcohol and light lunches - there are tables outside the cafe and it's the perfect sun trap - and ideal spot for a sundowner.. There is also a Post Office in the village. The main food shops are either Esperaza or the town of Limoux - both of which are about a 15 minute drive away..
**TELEVISION. The TV in the lounge is set up for UK Sky television, but because of the recent changes to the satellite, this area of France has a weak signal, so the channels are very limited - to mainly a few news channels and two entertainment channels. There are also DVD's at the house.
HEATING: Heating is available at an extra cost from mid October - end March and only if there is a booking of one month or more. There is a wood burner in the lounge room for cool evenings in the Spring/Autumn and firewood is easily available to buy locally. Please contact us for further details.
Please note there is no smoking in the house. We welcome guests to use candles in the courtyard, but please be vigilant. Please make sure candles, log burner and BBQ are extinguished before you go to bed. For obvious reasons, please be vigilant of small children in the stairwells and on the roof terrace.
Please do not take the bath towels to the beach. We try to keep the costs down as much as possible, so please help us to do this by turning the lights and fans off when not required. Many thanks.
I am a busy working mum with two lovely and lively children and when I'm not bouncing on a trampoline or making lego, I work in television production as a Producer. When I met Mark my partner - I also acquired a lovely French house (!) - and instantly fell in love with the house and the area. We've spent years lovingly restoring the place - our Bouriege neighbours are old friends and whenever we visit, we so wish we could stay for longer. Both Mark and I have travelled extensively (Mark is a yacht captain) in our jobs all over the world. Mark lived in Antibes for 15 years and I lived in Sydney for 10 years (and also have an Aussie passport). The wanderlust never died when the kids were toddlers, but now they're older, we plan to start Air BNBing ourselves - but Bouriege will always be our favourite place to return to. We love the French culture - and laid back ways of the Aude region. We're a happy, busy, sociable family - never a spare moment - diary always full - mainly kids activities(!) - but we wouldn't have it any other way... So, five things we couldn't live without... 1) each other 2) Friday night family movie cuddled on couch with popcorn 3) Hot holidays (me) 4) Ski-ing in the Pyrenees (Mark) 5) Poldark (ok, that's me - sad but true...). Life motto... 'don't put off the things you really want to do' - though sometimes it's easy to say, but harder to do! I'm sure there's lots of interesting things I haven't said about us - please feel free to ask.! xx
