Dear Alice, again we apologize for your uncomfortable visit. As I had explained during your stay, we had an unusually early and long hot spell that made everyone's allergies crazy (including mine) and uncomfortable nights unless one has central air which most of the homes in Livingston do not. We have rented our Red House for four summers now and have never had a complaint about poor air ventilation inside the house nor guests having allergy issues caused by the house (potential guests, please read all of our reviews).
I'm surprised you found the house dusty since we cleaned it carefully before you arrived (and your review's first sentence said the home was clean). But again, my apologies for not meeting your needs.
We normally only rent the full house in the summer but had decided to offer the downstairs separately from the upstairs since we had a few available nights. The price you paid in July was for the high summer season rate, $129 per night (plus fees) for the whole downstairs, house and private outdoor space. I think it would be more if you had stayed at a hotel; and you wouldn't have your own kitchen, living room, and dining room. Our rates are actually on the lower side compared to other vacation rentals in Livingston.
I wish you had agreed to let us come by and open up the upstairs bedrooms' windows to see if that would help with the air ventilation OR let us refund you the last night as we offered, so you could have been more comfortable elsewhere. We certainly did not want our guests to have an unpleasant stay. We tried to remedy the situation when you alerted us, but you declined our offer and said you would cope. We respected your decision then, but now, I wish we were more persistent. All I can say again is I am so sorry for your uncomfortable stay.
